The article is about how AirFrance is going to be forcing its stewardesses to wear headscarves when flights resume to Iran after a 8 year absence.

B-b-but it's just the Sunnis who are extreme and bad!

"Iranian women have been forced by law to cover their hair or face stiff fines or even imprisonment since 1979."

The theology of Islam makes no sense.

It doesn't believe in the fallen state of mankind, but somehow Allah's creation is faulty in that women must be covered from head to toe to prevent rape/men's unpreventable impulses?

Here's a write up on this fundamental difference between Islam and Christianity:

To tell you the truth, it does not bother me at all. If you do business with them, and fly there, be polite, adapt.
My problem are the ones that leave their countries and don't integrate. My problem is our governments who don't want to see the danger of massive uncontrolled inmigrations, specially from some hot spots.
If Air France or whoever wants to fly there, so be it. As much as I think I would not put my employees under those conditions, you can't fight economy, businesses, tourism... so if you dont fly there, others will.
By the way, I believe these girls will fly more confortable with the pijama on, trust me.

Islam sucks for women no matter which branch you choose to follow. But all in all, if you look at all the terrorist attacks on the west in last 20 years, it's almost all sunni work

Amen! The Iran apologism is gross. They have an oppressive, Islamofascist regime which openly supports terrorism. They put out hits on specific individuals (see: Rushdie) for insulting Islam. Disgusting regime. If the people of Iran are as moderate as Sherdoggers like to pretend, they need to prove their moderation by pulling the Ayatollah and his corrupt cronies into the street and Gadaffi-ing them.

On almost any issue you bring up relative to Iran the Saudis are worse. Iran forces women to wear headscarves, Saudis force them to wear burqas and don't let them leave the house without a male family member accompanying them.

Their execution record, especially as it relates to juvenile drug offenders, is cause for more concern IMO.

If any religion makes someone happy, I am okay with it as long as they don't try to impose their rules on society.

But I can still laugh at them,,,like this girl who "had a strong belief in atheism" before she converted.

I would think most of the women don't mind

But those religious police assholes in Saudi Arabia take it too far harassing the women for shit like nail polish

My favorite part about this story is that the only dress code mentioned in their book is a requirement for both sexes to dress modestly. I like how that passage turned into to laws demanding they cover their hair, then face, and finally a requirement that women dress up as ninja beekeepers. Hilarious, and not oppressive at all.

Perspective my friend.

They are moderate for a middke east country. And the real hardliners are the military, so no, pulling the Ayatollahs out would turn Iran into a repressive regime with far less freedoms than today.

Just like topless women are wrong and topless men are ok?

A scarf is not the same as a burqa and a fine is not the same as gangraped and beheaded.

Iran is a shitty country no doubt but compared to US allies in the region it kinda looks good.

All cultures are equal. Me and my wife should go there and prance around in our underwear, and we should be accepted.

I for one am done giving brownie points to the most repressive countries in the world.

In many places in Canada it's legal for women to go topless. We never see it, and as much as I'd like to, it's not going to become a common practice anytime soon. And that's fine with me as well.

Well, I agree with your points on a lack of similarities.

I agree, once again. But it's kind of like comparing cow dung to elephant feces. They're both shit, but on a vastly different scale.

Yeah no doubt but in the case of saudi arabia they tend to fling their shit all over the world Iran is mainly concerned with the shia world

If the world leaders thought like you the world would be a better place but we have world leaders calling Iran the devil while praising el Sisi for getting like 99% of the vote of a dictator for life election. Or allowing the house of Saud to do whatever the fuck tjey want

Kick back against the Shah banning the Hijab. There's no comparison between Iran and other Islamic theocracies like Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan or Mauritania on Women's rights.
They've also relaxed their Hijab rules, just after the revolution it would have been imprisonment. It wavers back and forth. Ahmadinejad was a lot more conservative than Khatami, and Rouhani is more of a reformer.

True enough, but I think it's due to cash flow. If Iraq had the means you can bet they would be promoting their brand of crazy more actively. I don't think being a 7 on the nuttometer should exempt someone of criticism just because someone else rates a 9.

They have a big influence in shia regions and they dont heavily proselytize.

The Iranian regime isnt even that popular among the ayatollahs

Turkey is moderate for a ME country. Israel is moderate for a ME country. Lebanon is moderate for a ME country. Jordan is a moderate ME country. But any country that forces women to cover up, puts out international hits on so-called blasphemers, has an incestuous government that ultimately relies on religious figures, unabashedly funds Islamic terrorism, metes out punishments up to and including execution for consensual homosexual acts between adults, pressures men to have their penises chopped off and hormones pumped into their bodies so they can avoid said punishment just because they want to have sex with other men...this is not a moderate country by any standards, even dogshit Middle Eastern ones. In my opinion, the countries I mentioned before have more enlightened societies, by ME standards.
