Brazilian woman killed by terrorist will be buried in France
Simone Barreto, one of the victims of the terrorist attack in the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Nice, in France, will be buried in the same country where the attack occurred. The information is from friends, family and the government of Bahia. There are no details on the date, nor whether she will be buried in Nice, but the burial will take place in France.
Born in Salvador, Simone has lived in France since 1995. She also had French citizenship, trained as a cook, and was also working as a caregiver for the elderly.
Simone left Brazil at the age of 19 to participate in a dance group led by one of the sisters. She had three children, aged 15, 10 and 6 years old. The oldest is a teenager, the result of his relationship with a Frenchman. All of Simone's children were born in France. Her parents are already deceased.
'Asked her to tell her children that she loved them'
"She went to the restaurant and when she got there she asked for help and asked them to tell her children that she loved them".
Says Ivana Pelmard, Simone's friend who is also Brazilian and lives in the European country, who had known Simone for 25 years. She also said that, in addition to the affectionate words to the three children, the friend also contributed so that more people were not victims of the attack.
"She ran out of the church, asking for help. It was precisely this action by her that enabled the police to catch the criminal."
The two friends met in 1995, when they went to France to work in a dance group where Simone's sister did art direction. Ivana says that Simone's main brand was good humor.
“We met in 1995. We were going to Nice together, not to Paris, to work as dancers in the group where her sister is artistic director. I don't remember seeing Simone sad or grumpy. [She was] Always cheerful, always smiling, always playful, very playful. And happy with life, always happy with life".
Ivana asked for justice for Simone's death, so that she doesn't becomes another forgotten victim of a terrorist attack.
"May her death not be in vain. Today it was Simone, a Brazilian, from Bahia, mother, daughter, sister, friend. But tomorrow it could be Joana, Beltrana. So, don't be like that. Let's end "I think it's time, enough. Enough of so many innocent people dying for a cause that they say is in the name of God. Because it is not in the name of God," she said.
