I'm all for it. Chicks wanna fight? I wanna watch them. So whats the big deal? Most of the criticism you hear about WMMA is sexist BS like saying they're too frail to fight or their not athletic enough to be entertaining. I just think its crazy especially considering a fighter like Rousey would school 90% of the average joes she meets on the street her size and 99.9% of the guys who post on sherdog forums.
Another criticism I hear is that the divisions are too shallow and that the talent is drastically sub par. Rousey is an outstanding ground technician but her stand up definitely needs work. To this point I can agree but only to a certain extent. No fight fan today would look back at the early UFCs and Prides and complain about the fighters not being well rounded enough, although clearly they weren't. You use to see the old school guys winging punches with their chins up and eyes closed, tapping out to hand chokes and guillotines from side control but we understood that the sport was still young and the fighters were still developing so we gave them a pass. Not to mention, despite the lack of skills they were still able to put on very entertaining shows. The situation with WMMA is no different. WMMA is still young and just needs time to develop and a promotion to bring their fights to the fans. Thats whats happening now with the UFC, and WMMA has nowhere else to go but up.
The way I see it WMMA can only do good for the UFC by drawing new fans and new demographics (women/pervs). I find it hard to believe that fans will stop watching the UFC completely just because they have an objection to WMMA. So why the hate? If you don't like WMMA thats cool, dont watch it. No need to get all up in arms about it. Personally, I'm an mma fan and I think watching a really technical ground fighter like Frank Mir can be just as entertaining as watching a really technical ground fighter like Ronda Rousey. Chicks wanna fight? Let them fight.
