For the record I like wmma. I think it can be very exciting, but ufc did it all wrong. They should have bought invicta or set up a deal with them. The women's division makes no sense right now. They need lots of fighters to make up a division. 2 women signed and once one loses they are cut and they sign another women to fight the champ? That sounds like the worst idea ever. If ufc wants fans to take wmma seriously, the ufc first needs to take wmma seriously.

Can't agree more TS! The UFC is treating this like a circus act. Secondly the whole thing is built around Rousey who will get beat. And when she is beat by an unmarketable opponent, the show is over.

Exactly. I'm curious what the women's division if there is one looks like in 2014

Its smart from a business point of view.
Bringing in a women's division is potentially dangerous in regards to ppvs and revenue streams.
This way the ufc can see if its viable as a draw. I have read lots of people saying they won't buy 157 due to the main card. The women's division isnt very rich skill wise and with the boardies and mouth guards they don't look so feminine.
That said, I'm glad they are given the opportunity to breach mainstream mma and hope they will develop.

They're giving WMMA a platform. They're trying to draw in the rising women's demographic in contact sports. It is crazy the old-guard of MMA, who will buy or not buy the PPV regardless, are complaining about the order of the fights.

If you don't like it, turn it off after the Machida/Hendo fight. Wont' be any different than what the show would have been sans the Rousey fight.

I agree completely. I am not a fan of wmma but I have no problem with it being in the UFC, I just won't watch. They have the right to compete in the biggest promotion

It's very easy to get a lot of PPV buys with women on the card...

Just make sure the other fights are awesome enough to be undeniable.

  8. I think Zuffa is behind the creation and growth of Invicta.

There are more than 2 women signed to the UFC.

I speculate that Rousey vs. Tate II will be an Unltimate Fighter Finale. DW said that they would probably be coaching men, but he may change his mind before it actually happen.

I am a fan of WMMA and I agree with DW that the divisions aren't deep enough for UFC. But they had a problem on thier hands. Strikeforce is closing it's doors. Ronda Rousey is under Zuffa contract. What else are they going to do with her?

With the growth of Invicta and a season of a female fighter and the divisions may be deep enough.

For Dana it's not about Wmma it's about rousey and a fight with cyborg , if rousey would lose to carmouche I really think that will be the beginning and the end of women in the UFC . I mean HW just signed rousey and gave her the title to cash in on her popularity right now . I would have rather seen at least a 4 woman tournament for the title .
