WME guy #1: "Hey Whittaker vs Yoel 1 only did 100K buys. Let's put this Australian/Cuban rematch the 3rd biggest city in U.S. as a main event."

WME guy #2: "Great idea! Let us also put wmma in the co-main and the ppv opener. That'll add at least 20-25 ppv buys."

WME guy #1 "Ok BUT, only if one is a squash-match that has no intrigue and the other must feature 1 of the most boring fighters in mma history whose fight gets boo'd every single time.

WME guy #2 "Gotcha! How's this look?"

Whittaker vs Romero 2
Montano vs Shevchenko
Reem vs Blaydes
Joe B vs Sergio
Esparza vs Gadelha

WME guy #2 "So what do you think?"

WME guy #1 "Just when I think u can't possibly get any wiser, you go perfect a card like this. It's almost as good as the Perth card boy these Midwest fight fans are in for a real treat."

*5000k tickets unsold & a 90k ppv buyrate(going up against NBA/NHL finals) later:

WME guy #1: "I don't understand how this could've happened!!"

WME guy #2: "Should've added more women's mma. Holm vs Betche 2 instead of Reem/Blaydes. And we probably should've let Nicco Montano headline over Whittaker."

WME guy #2: "Of course! How did we not see this coming? I'll tell you this tho, we won't ever make this mistake again. From now on every ppv must have 3 wmma fights no ifs/ands/buts about it"

That's actually a pretty good card

But yeah it's gonna sell between 10 and 12 PPV buys. Casuals won't know a single person on that card except maybe Reem

I'll enjoy it (could do without Esparza/Gadelha on a PPV main card but whatever) but yeah I'll be one of the few

Sad that after that amazing fight Whittaker and Romero had the rematch still isn't going to make them the $$$ they deserve

With fights like TJ/DJ, Woodley/RDA, & Max/Ortega available it's an absolute spit in the face of Chicago & Midwest mma fans. Brooklyn & even rundown Detroit gets treated better.

Is WME so stupid they don't realize the size of Chicago's market?

Meanwhile 226 gonna be like:

Stipe vs DC
TJ vs DJ
Max vs Ortega
Ngannou vs Lewis
Bisping vs Rockhold 3

And that only does the same 500k buys it was going to do without stacking it so much that 225 & 227 will both be absolutely pathetic.

Yeah, I'm sure the scheduling is on purpose. They really wanted to do Tony/Khabib as the headliner for 48 events this year, but couldn't get either to sign on to that.

You do know WME is at the mercy of a giant schedule and lack of available fighters at any given moment, don't you?

*UFC shill alert*

So you don't know to read? Or check the rankings? 90% of the roster is unbooked & May is almost full. 226 already has Stipe/DC.

TJ/DJ
Max/Ortega
Woodley/RDA
Ngannou/Lewis

Are all available. There is no reason 1 of those can't co-main over Nicco fucking Montano.

I think the upper Exec's at WME are more worried about the TV contract and not so much about whatever event is taking place this weekend or next.

I think you can lay the blame at the feet of the match makers, mainly Sean Shelby. But at the same time they can only put on the card they can get the best guys to agree to fight. It isn't easy to get a lot of these matches made and the bigger star you are the harder it is to get the fights signed. A lot of moving parts to come up with these PPV worthy cards and sometimes it just doesn't fully come together.

This
Most at WME couldn't name 95% of the roster
Thinking Ari books fights is silly
But TS is just having fun with it

I think the original idea was that CM Punk would be on the card and although people would hate to admit it, he'd mean more to PPV busy than anyone on this card. Haven't heard much about that lately though so I'm guessing either Punk isn't ready and/or they couldn't find anyone they thought he had a good chance to beat.

If Punk were on this main card, I'd personally bump Montano/Shevchenko to the featured FS 1 prelim. That fight is not adding 1 PPV buy but it might draw some curious television viewers.

This is no one's fault except the UFC/WME themselves. They are not at the mercy of a giant schedule, they created the giant schedule. Too many events and too many divisions (particularly WMMA) are their own doing. As a result, they have a bloated roster of fighters most hardcore fans can't even name, and divisions that are paper thin. The women's 145 division has three actual 145ers, and two of them De Ramdamie and Anderson don't take fights. Womens 125 has a champ that has a pro record of 4-2! Was anyone clammoring for more WMMA divisions? So as a result we get watered down cards with Invicta or Tachi Palace type talent on the main card.

4/10 originality
9/10 presentation

Some cards are just whatever was in the WME-IMG fridge thrown together into an offering they just assume enough people will choke down out of sheer hunger.

Ban this ufc schill

WME is secretly a consortium of the world's top boxing promoters along Vince Mcmahon who all chipped in and bought the UFC to run it into the ground and eliminate the competition. At the moment they are just trolling and having some fun for their money with all this WMMA before finally going in for the kill.

Nico Montano vs Paige VanZant headlining a PPV extravaganza is coming soon.

Don't know why all the tears, decent enough card imo. Come IFW the decks will be stacked. July and the summer will give us our fill and make up for the sluggishness that precedes it.
