Someone should ask Rogan how boxing is dieing if Povetkin just made more than any fighter in UFC history.
On the flipside it makes me think how big the HW division would be if just some of the top athletes in the world would go into boxing instead of stick and ball sports.
Stick and ball sports don't hurt, plus you keep your brain cells.
Heh....actually it's not even that. If you're a large highly athletic guy growing up, how on earth do you end up at a boxing gym over playing football/basketball/baseball at your school?
Let's see, you can either;
a.) Play football in front of the entire school on Friday night. Go party after and bang the homecoming queen all while getting a scholarship to a top university and do the same there.
b.) Train in some smelly boxing gym for a amateur fight that no one is going to watch.

UFC is around 20 years old, you really can't compare UFC to the biggest boxing organizations in the world. UFC already did pay a fighter 5 million USD for a fight, which is a hell of alot more impressive than paying Povetkin 5,x million dollars.
And I couldn't care less how it's doing, regardless if its thriving or dying.
UFC fighters have never made a 5 million purse. As in the flat pay is 5 million not including sponsorship and bonuses.
I'll take Dana White's word over yours.

In 1910, less than 20 years after the Marquess of Queensberry rules established modern boxing with the Corbett vs Sullivan bout, Jack Johnson was paid $75,000 for his bout with Jim Jeffries. In 2013, Antonio "Big Foot" Silva fought for the UFC Heavyweight title... and got paid $75,000.
And Johnson's $75,000 wasn't in today's money... that's $75,000 in 1908 money... which would be worth a hell of a lot more now. And that was just Johnson's purse... that doesn't include the TV rights, newspaper rights, radio rights, sponsorship or anything else.
And if we were to push all the way forward to 1927 you would find Tunney ($990,000 purse) and Dempsey ($495,000 purse) scraping for the HW title. Again, in 1927 money and again excluding the various broadcasting rights, sponsorship and bonuses.
And remember, this was in the days before PPV which makes any major bout a lot more lucrative a proposition.
The relative youth of the UFC (and I do note how careful you are to say UFC and not MMA...) is no excuse for the relatively miniscule purses.
When has Dana ever said that a fighter got a purse of $5,000,000? And where are the athletic commissions to back this up?
I know he's said a fighter got paid $5,000,000 but there's a rather large difference between having a guaranteed purse of $5,000,000 and getting $5,000,000 when you combine purse, bonuses, sponsorship, PPV cut, shower room deals and all the other things.
Povetkin got $5.8 million for his purse alone. Sponsorship, bonuses, cut of TV rights etc are all on top of that.
