This move might come back and bite them in the ass. All the E3 streamers I watched that are 80% or even 100% PC gamers all have said they were excited for some of the xbone exclusives they showed off. With Sea of Thieves being the one most seem hyped for. All of them said they were considering buying xbone's just for Sea of Thieves and now have no reason to. Oddly enough even though PSVR will be the weaker of the VR devices that will be available to gamers, a lot of those streamers even said they would get a PS4 now for PSVR exclusives and Sony exclusives or already had PS4's. I don't think Microsoft understands that PC gamers would have bought xbox one's if they loved the exclusives enough. And Sea of Thieves looks like a winner, especially as a game for streamers. Now they have no reason to buy Xbone's. Am I missing something? How could this be a smart move on Microsoft's part?

the thing is, no one likes windows live. So i doubt it will harm XShit

lols Windows Live does suck. I thought they had killed that shit. Is this new Windows live the same thing rebooted? Probably better than Origin still though

I think its a smart move. Game companies make money off of software not hardware. If you can buy those games on a PC that just gives them a much more of a massive install base now.

Plus with the new play anywhere and cross play if allows more people to get on board with Microsoft and the Xbox game library.

Also, most importantly Microsoft is now offering various options for all types of gamers. Casuals will get the original XBONE or S and the hardcore can get a Scorpio or PC. Gamers love options and choice.

Consoles need to fucking die already. They are holding back progress. I applaud Microsoft if they end up phasing out their console (which it almost appears to be the direction they are going).

I'm no businessman, but it seems that they can push more product than Sony between Windows and XBox and that might compensate for the gap that Sony created this gen. It's my understanding that often consoles are sold at a loss so like @Hyperglide said it may be about selling more games and racking up more licensing fees.

Idk about other people, but for me this is the first gen where I'm more interested in how the consoles improve my living room than which has better games. I'll probably buy a console like the Xbox in the future just because I like how easy it is to use the internet and other apps. So it's not exactly a console killing move for people like me. Especially with Bethesda adding mods to consoles, I could easily see myself buying a game for console over PC anyway. I prefer playing on console most of the time.

I don't have a gaming pc since the GeForce 6 family, simply had a console and a notebook. I'm not planning to spend money into a pc to play the same games I have on the Xbone.

After the first "wow, it's beautiful" that lasts 5 seconds, the game is the same.

At least the PC crowd has something to cheer, because that laughable pc conference was a joke.

Yea I'm happy about it as a PC gamer. I enjoy playing gears campaigns. But I certainly am not buying a console for it. So Microsoft is getting money from me they normally wouldn't of.

For sure, they have our money the same way, I think they couldn't care less what platform we are.

I always think of this story when I hear about consoles being sold at a loss:

I view the xbone more as a cable/streaming entertainment center that happens to play disk based games

Plus I don't think they will ever go away there are still to many people scared to build a gaming computer and can't afford a premarital gaming rig so this is the best route for them

Since 1999 i still dont understand how consoles have stayed relevant and profitable.

actually it was a lot better then i thought

Hope you Xbox fans are right and it turns out well. Last time they tried this it failed bad and pissed off a lot of pc gamers. You guys forget Games for Windows Live? What exactly is different from that failure besides now it will be Windows 10? Quantum Break was a mess on PC(not sure if it eventually got fixed). It didn't work in the past and hasn't been great so far this time around so I'm not so sure how you can be so sure this is a good thing.
