Witcher 4 reveal trailer

You spend way too much time online. Go outside and touch some grass dude. Lol at getting your panties in a bunch over a developer giving their employees more benefits.

Works every time, right?

Ciri had limited segments in Witcher 3 and it's clear they spent very little effort on her gameplay, just added a teleport and regenerating health. I would expect Witcher 4 to be much different.
While Wolverine-like regenerating health probably isn't canon in the storyline, only in the gameplay, the teleportation was displayed in the cutscenes.

I could point out neither was in the Witcher 4 trailer, but I'm thinking since development has only just recently become the #1 priority for the studio entering full production probably for the next three years, that trailer should be viewed as motion-concept-art within the UE5 engine.

Please don't tell you're going to be that guy who does nothing but whine and complain all the way up to the release date because there's a female protagonist. CD Projekt Red has done nothing but release hit after hit.
I doubt you remember but on Sherdog I've been one of the biggest supporters of Ciri being the protagonist of the sequel.

I'm just calling out red flags I see, and hopefully CDPR will be noticing the online feedback.

The good thing about this is that they are only recently into heavy production. They aren't locked into 4/5+ years of development like a lot of games coming out that couldn't change course if they wanted to.

I really like Ciri, and she makes sense if they're going to have a specific MC, I just wanted them to let us make our own Witcher. I'm sure the story will be great regardless, and it will be cool to interact with Geralt as an NPC this time.

I'm very curious about how CDPR will adapt to using UE5, which was used to render the trailer.
Their own RedEngine is finally being retired and it took a very long time for CP2077 to run well on modern consoles. So I guess we'll see how production with UE5 will go, and if they'll be confident in doing two expansions (like Witcher3) instead of one (like CP2077).

Konami's development with REengine was streamlined to the point they were releasing the REmake games quite quickly, with RE8 in the middle of a few.

CDPR's games are significantly larger than any modern RE game though.

Witcher3 was quite surprising how Geralt was a preexisting character but the player could make choices as him that any option was still within his established character... but there's a few exceptions.
With Witcher4, if they went with the 'create your own witcher' route it wouldn't have been authentic because there are no new Witchers.
That said, I do like the idea of a new witcher narrative taking place thousands of miles from the lands & characters of the books/games, possibly hundreds of years in the past, with a 'Create your own Witcher.'

The lands and people of the Witcher are based on Polish folklore. Imagine if there was a new narrative based on the folklore of Japan, Korea, China, Thailand, and maybe Russian all mixed together.

The Witcher game series takes so many liberties with the books, but this is where people draw the line? Seems like this isn't just about respecting the lore
Probably either "it's a girl who's not a bimbo so it's feminist/DEI/propaganda "or "but page 142 of the book disagrees with this" or "but it's not like the previous games for x reason".

But if it's a good game, we'll all enjoy it. I just hope it doesn't have all the UE5 stuttering or any of those type issues.

Hopefully by then devs/Epic will have figured out Unreal stuttering issues, it's rampant in every game I've played. CDPR will have a good 4 or 5 years to figure things out by the time Witcher 4 and the Cyberpunk sequel comes out. I hope valve releases Steam OS for desktops soon too. Every game that had a stuttering issue on my PC ran smoothly on my Steam Deck, at least those that ran on it. Elden Ring comes to mind first.

I think it has more to do with liberties being taken and then just flipping the entire world on its head but whatever

I'm expecting there to be even more choices than that with Ciri because she's far less established and experienced than Geralt. He's a fully developed character, she's a half developed character. There's far more room to grow.

PWorks every time, right?
Is that what juveniles talk like? You're in here complaining about apparent micro-aggressions, what am I supposed to say?

Cyberpunk 2077 is the first game I've seen that lets you play as a trans person. Not only that, everyone refers to the character by their preferred pronoun. By that metric it's literally the wokest game I've ever played. Still a fantastic experience, it didn't upset me that they did that. I trust CD Projekt Red to deliver a great game given enough time. So them adding to their employee benefits package for females simply doesn't bother me the same way it does you.

I don't think we should take anything from the previous game other than she will have the basic Witcher skills. I would be surprised if they don't add on some magical abilities.

When your red flag is that one of the most powerful characters in the entire lore who can travel space and time can drink potions...sorry, I think that's a very weak red flag. And you can lower that flag, the director revealed she goes through the Witcher trials.

I'm far more worried about them rushing the game out unfinished. I believe they've learned their lesson with Cyberpunk, but you never know.

Something substantial, like a meaningful counter-argument.

Actually no, CDPR doesn't let you pick your 'pronouns.' At no point is 'He/His,' 'She/Her,' or any of the dozens of options on Facebook like 'Ze/Zhes.'

And the limited wokeness in CP2077 is actually quite acceptable because its a futuristic dystopian narrative. It's a warning of the future, not an inspirational future.

I would hope they would, rather than have Ciri be a typical Witcher. Her royal blood & magical powers could be a great source for creative avenues with both gameplay and narrative.

Its still a red flag.
There's reasons why only children are subjected to the Witcher trials.
Only get-around that is Ciri's magic & royal blood.

After the launch of CP2077, those concerns are very warranted.

They can probably explain ciri being weaker by some " cant control powers so went through ritual to dumb them down" type reason

In the books ciri had an episode with fire magic that messed her up pretty bad

It's almost like they'll explain how Ciri got to this point in the game

Yup, and we'll see how they explain why Ciri doing the witcher trials was necessary.

I never followed the Witcher books, but this was my understanding as well. Going back to the first game, extensive liberties would be taken. Personally, I don't care since I always enjoyed the games and never read the books which I assume is probably true for the overwhelming majority of the fanbase for the games.

Im wondering how many people that would complain about the lore of the WItcher games have read even a single one of stories?

Enough to have an issue with it obviously

The games give you choices similar to the books, but the games are also very limited ins cope compared to the books so liberties are taken from technological hindrances and choices the players make in the games.

I think every Witcher game is pretty mid or terrible tbh. Witcher 3 isn't that great, 2 is okay, 1 is awful. There are parallels to the books but overall I think people understand you can't input everything or railroad players in an RPG.
