WI republicans have decided that if democracy means the Democrats win, they’ll erase democracy.

Wisconsin Republicans moved quickly Monday to change the 2020 presidential primary date at a cost of millions of dollars to benefit a conservative state Supreme Court justice, part of a rare lame-duck session that would also weaken the newly elected Democratic governor and attorney general.

The changes being sought would shift power to the GOP-controlled Legislature and allow outgoing Republican Gov. Scott Walker to make one last major mark on the state’s political landscape after he lost re-election in November.

Fitzgerald said last week that Republicans want to move the 2020 presidential primary, when Democratic turnout is expected to be high, so it won’t be on the same date as an April election where Walker-appointed Supreme Court Justice Dan Kelly is on the ballot, thereby improving his chances of victory.

The state Elections Commission unanimously adopted a motion Monday declaring that the shift would be “extraordinarily difficult” and costly without additional funding. Commissioner Mark Thomsen, a Democratic appointee, called the plan “the biggest waste of money for a single person that I can think of” during discussion preceding the vote.

Fitzgerald and other Republican leaders said that changes to that proposal, and others including limiting early voting to two weeks before an election, were being considered and could be offered during floor debate Tuesday.

Similar limitations on early voting were found unconstitutional by a federal judge in 2016 and Democrats have threatened legal action again.

Facing the prospect of sharing political power for the first time in almost a decade, Republicans in Wisconsin are racing to set new limits on the authority of Democrats who will soon take over the offices of governor and attorney general.

It was the latest effort by leaders of a state to try to shift authority in the face of an election loss, and it set off furious protests from Wisconsin Democrats, who said they would not stand for the moves and called on residents to raise loud objections.

Republicans called lawmakers to the state capital this week to weigh a sweeping plan that could diminish the power of Tony Evers, the Democrat who beat Gov. Scott Walker last month, by restricting his ability to shift how public benefits programs are run and limiting his authority to set rules for carrying out state laws.

The long list of proposals Republicans want to consider also includes wide efforts to shore up Republican strength before Mr. Evers is sworn in next month: new limits to early voting, a shift in the timing of the 2020 presidential primary in Wisconsin, and new authority for lawmakers on state litigation.

Republicans in the WI legislature are planning to, tomorrow:

1)Take the power from the Attornery General and Governor to decide whether to stay in the ACA lawsuit joined by the previous governor and AG

2) Move the WI presidential primary away from the date when an extreme far-right WI SC justice is up for re-election in order to try to suppress Dem turnout at a cost of at least 7 million $

3) take control of the state jobs board from the governor after Scott Walker had it for his entire term

4) cut early voting in a third (6 to 2 weeks) to try to suppress Dem votes

5) in general, restrict in any way possible the power of the duly elected statewide positions, which Winconsin voters gave ENTIRELY to the Democratic Party.

All this while the republican legislature received a minority of the votes and yet is retaining a strong majority in the legislature for next term due to horrendous gerrymandering.

Similar measures are being considered in Michigan, where voters also chose Democrats to run the government for them.

Republicans are literally attempting to undo the results of an election before our eyes.

Even though I hate people like ben shapiro, I'd like to get his take on this. Or people like him who have no problem calling out republican bullshit while tamping down shrill leftist hyperbole

They're just taking a page out of the liberals play book. <Moves><TheDonald><Fedor23>

Where have any progressives or even neoliberals tried to take power away from an incoming governor and AG after losing an election?

Or are you thinking of when Republicans did this same anti-democratic assault in NC a bit ago?

No I'm thinking of the ridiculous ways libs have been acting in the last 2 to 3 years. Brexit, Trump, etc

"Lawmakers are pushing a constitutional amendment that would deprive Gov. Phil Murphy and his successors of having the final say over how much money various taxes and programs will raise each year, opting instead to shift that responsibility to a three-member panel consisting of state and outside experts."

There you go! I knew you could contribute somehow, little guy.

Oh, except, you absolutely made a fool of yourself.

Phil Murphy is A DEMOCRAT.

The dem legislature in NJ is weakening its own incoming Gov because they feel the governorship in NJ is too powerful.

They didn't do it to prevent an opposite party incoming duly elected Gov from fulfilling his campaign promises to his voters.

Astonishingly sad self-own.

Phil Murphy is a Democrat...

And you think that is comparable to a Republican legislature seeking to rush changes to the rules for incoming Democrat? Solely because the Democrat won.

You have nothing then, cool. Thanks for bumping the thread talking about how Republicans are trying to erode democracy because voters aren't electing them.

Not going to comment on the happenings reported in the OP so why reply to the thread?

I literally commented on the thread and how ludicrous it...literally...is. if a person has to use hyperbole to push a point, the point is literally not worth pushing since it literally cant stand on its own. Its click-bait style due to literal lack of ability to actually think up an adequate argument.

If the point of making a thread is to have a discussion, try letting the actual facts of the story do it. Literally. But clearly the point was to try to stir some shit up...literally.

Behold, correct uses of the word literally.

The question was "Where have any progressives or even neoliberals tried to take power away from an incoming governor and AG after losing an election?" so...yeah. There was nothing about doing it to a Republican. Jesus lol. This whole team cheerleader shit is funny as hell.

Mueller is a lifelong Republican and speaking of investigations ever heard of Ken Starr? You know the guy who spent years investigating Clinton a managed a grand total of 1 conviction and a lie about a oval office bj. Trust me my friend you do not want to go down this road, you will only make an even bigger fool of yourself than usual.

What's happening in New Jersey is disgusting as well. Want continue whining about that?

See my above post. You are a moron and my first post was ON TOPIC. How only idiots use words like "literally" the way you do and you proved me right several times already.

They didn't lose the election in question, you nimrod. Are you really this dumb?

Or this blindly cheerleading of a republican?

Your example was invalid and just further proved how wrong you are.

LOL, nothing you want to acknowledge or will read about on Huff Po or Mother Jones. Thanks for being a partisan hack. And thanks the "team" comment. I got a legit laugh out how goofy you think.

So you've got nothing and you refuse to contribute because the Republican behavior is abhorrent and indefensible? Cool!

YOUR QUESTION HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH WHO WON OR WHO IT WAS DONE TO. It literally simply was to name a single time Democrats did it to an incoming governor or AG. Derp.

You are so stupid you literally cant even defend your OWN question. Try to be correct about something in your own thread at least one single time.

You left out part of what I asked: "After losing an election"

You are really, really dumb or really, really dishonest. Stop owning yourself for the sake of your shredded pride.
