I would just like to know what the winning chances are for grapplers on their back, whether its full guard, half guard, butterfly or whatever? I run out of ideas when I'm on my back while doing submission drills at training. Any suggestions?

How long have you been training? There are lots of options from full guard, half guard etc to work with. You always want to stay active the best guys i know move from one submmision to another and it just seems to flow. They are always moving if one thing is not working they quickly transition to the next. The more you train the easier you will see the options for submission's or escapes.

I've been doing bjj for only a couple of months now and from the guard I like the triangle an if that's not working I switch to an armbar.

Ok so here is a list of things you can consider for submmisions look them up and try and pick a couple to work on.

Biceps Slicer, Overhook Kimura, Overhook Arm Bar, Pillow Arm Bar, Gogoplata, Arm Triangle, Omoplata (number of variations), Guillotine, Triangle Arm Bar, Kimura, Arm Bar with Leg Hook.

The more you train the more options you have available. Keep at it.

For some reason, my grappling partner always tries to go for the Armbar and I'm rather short against him. I'm 5'1" and he is 5'5''. He always get the dominant position, but I get full guard easily. From there on, I'm clueless and we go back and forth with him trying to break my guard and me trying to keep it locked up. I have almost no idea what to on my back as I've just started doing MMA and I have BJJ background or any martial art for that matter.

You know... You make no sense.
1. I'm an average Joe trying to learn MMA
2. average Joe's haven't got any idea what the open guard or closed guard is.
3. I was looking for advice in closed guard position while I'm on my back. Not transitioning to a different guard.
4. My name is not Joe.

why are you set on closed guard?

open up and look to sweep or stand, especially if you're doing mma.

also imo working on getting solid takedowns / td defense / escapes should be a priority.

holding onto a closed guard is for insecure people. open up and ENJOY life!

If you are doing BJJ to learn MMA. I would just worry about creating space and getting to your feet and instead work your top game and takedowns.

Basically there are three things you gotta learn how to do:

-Submit (armbar, triangle, kimura)
-Sweep (scissor sweep, pendulum sweep, hip bump sweep)
-Take the back (related to sweeping)

Also should learn how to make space to stand back up from closed guard.

have u tried sweeping the mofo?

I love belly-down armbars from my back; the whole triangle-omoplata-armbar sequence is key.

75% of my game off my back is sweeping, I don't want to be on my back if I can help it.

If my half guard sweeps don't work, I'll go to butterfly guard. If those sweeps don't work, I'll go to closed guard. If I can't sweep you there, well, I have to submit you (armbar, triangle, omoplata).

Has no one noticed TS say "my grappling partner"?

Get to a real gym and train with a qualified instructor.

Open Guard
Push Opponent until they stand
Berimbolo

please make a video instructional of you doing it.

I'd like to see what the master of the berimbolo has in store for us.

thread starter is either a real noob, or a troll.

Either way, the guard doesn't work just do what Mark Kerr did and take steroids + wrestle. You'll get a movie made about you, and win ADCC. win/win.
