I've had this laptop with Windows 10 for a couple of months now and I was just getting used to it and thinking it might not be too bad. Last week I was using the touch pad and the screen image turned 90 degrees. I couldn't figure out how I turned it so I had to look up how to turn it. Its fun to use the touch pad when it's 90 degrees different than the screen. I found two ways to rotate the view but none of them used the touch pad so I still don't know how it happened in the first place.

Today, I turned the computer on, entered my password and couldn't get in. Interestingly enough it showed a website to contact which I couldn't because I couldn't use the computer. My other 2 were stolen so I only have one and I couldn't look up what to do. Since it's new, I looked at the paperwork for a tech support phone number but Toshiba only lists a website. They did have a number to order accessories so I called that and they got me to tech support. Apparently this is a problem with Windows 10 because they had a procedure to reset the program. I assumed it would just be a password reset but it wasn't. It took about 40 minutes for Windows to reset and my password worked again.

What other problems do I have to look forward to?

That's interesting because there's malware going around that freezes your computer with a security warning and tells you to contact Microsoft immediately. Of course, the number they give you isn't Microsoft and they'll take your credit card info before unfreezing your computer. It hit my roommate and my sister.

This situation gets more twisted if there's a near-identical, real problem that puts you in touch with Microsoft.

I had some sound driver issues on a new install but no other problems since. I have 2 other computers that run it with no issues.

Also search for Windows 10 privacy fixes if you're worried about them spying on you. I am staying with Windows 7 for this reason, but apparently recent updates mean they're taking my data from Windows 7 as though its Windows 10. :(

I was wondering if this was something like that but that one shows up when you connect to the internet. This was on startup.

This computer came with a pre-loaded security software, I think it was Symantec, that had to be purchased after the 30 day free trial. I'm using Windows Defender instead. I thought it might have been something to do with that.

I should note that yesterday, if I didn't touch any key for 10 minutes or so, the computer would go into a sleep mode where the power button starts flashing. When the button was pushed, the start screen would come up and the password had to be entered again.

Sometimes on startup I get a message that Windows was unable to update. Other times it does update and it takes 15 to 20 minutes to do it.

Windows 7 > 10 >8

in my opinion

I've been happy with W10, a few problems here and there, like clicking on shit and it not working, but worse I've had to do to fix issues is restart the computer. Other than that I'm digging it, though W7 was also great.

I tried to add a user account. On any other system it's very easy to do. But Windows 10 makes it a very convoluted process for such a simple task. First, they sort of trick you into thinking you need an outlook account to add a user. I believe you can get around this, but I didn't know this at the time. So I figure, ok I'll just add an outlook account, made up a name and new user name. Well instead of adding the user account, it changed my name to that user account. It then took away any option of changing my account name. It sounds like BS but I literally searched for 2 hours trying to figure out how to change the name on my account back to normal. I was able to add other accounts and delete them, or change them, but I could not change mine. There was simply no option. It was like a virus on my computer, like once it linked an outlook account to my computer it's like you're keeping it mother fucker. it just would not allow me to change it. I had to use a system restore and go back a week with my computer to get the settings to change back. I'm not computer illiterate, Windows 10 just made it a real fucking bitch to work out.

Over All I'm happy with the system. I just ran into a situation where Windows was being Windows, difficult for no reason. Adding a user is solved problem, it's easy to do it. So like Windows does, they took a problem that was solved and broke it again.

I had Windows 8 on my surface pro and it was a God send to get 10. 8 was brutal.

Now I just wish Verizon would finally get around to sending me the 10 update for my phone.

I am never upgrading to Windows 10. Their shady practices are too suspicious - they keep trying to trick you into upgrading and changing privacy settings that you previously turned off. WTF Microsoft? If I want something to not track me and I change the setting, don't change it back without me knowing during an update.

Those updates were actually from last year. I removed them and stopped updating my Win 7.

It did the same thing today and it seems to have something to do with the Outlook account. I can't log into it. It won't accept the password.

For the past couple of weeks a message keeps appearing in the lower right of the screen advising me to add some security layers to my Outlook account. I tried to once but it wouldn't accept the password. When I tried to use the forgot password link, it asks if I want it sent as a text or by a phone call. I have texting blocked so I selected a phone call but they never called. I can't seem to find a phone or e-mail contact for Microsoft. I tried to ask a question on their community site but I need to log in using my Outlook account and of course I can't do that.

Does anyone have a phone number for Microsoft support?

Change the sign in to a LOCAL account IMMEDIATELY.

That mitigates the worst of the Windows 10 spying sh*t.

I work with win10 everyday, and barely encounter problems like this. I do encounter them though, but it's mainly on the surface book, which has been a disaster, mainly due to driver issues

Are you running a preview build?

Windows 10 is alright I guess, I like windows 7 a lot better. Windows 8 is horrible. My favorite is probably the current mac os x followed by linux mint.
