Or is the age of the really small HW over?
I agree he had balls but was he really less than 205 normally in those days? While 220 guys are cutting to 205, Silva was less than 205 bulking up to fight guys 220+ like Hunt and CC.

Maybe you´re right, who knows. But I wanted to add a little more drama.I agree he had balls but was he really less than 205 normally in those days?
This guy looks massive:

Dude is chuteboxe style. If someone tried to tell him "No Wanderlei, you can´t fight someone that much bigger because he´s gonna give you brain damage" , he would probably shove the contract up the guy's ass and take the fight anyway. What? Wanderlei was over 200lbs in Pride. He was jacked.
As cool as it was no 220lb or 225lb guy should be allowed to fight someone who weighs 280lbs or 300lbs like pride did. That fight gave Wanderlei a shorter life.
So Crocop and Couture shouldn't be allowed to fight Hunt or Timmeh? As cool as it was no 220lb or 225lb guy should be allowed to fight someone who weighs 280lbs or 300lbs like pride did. That fight gave Wanderlei a shorter life.
220 lbs fighters are cutting to 170 lbs these days.
So Crocop and Couture shouldn't be allowed to fight Hunt or Timmeh?
No.
Most fighters are cutting 10-15% regardless of class.
That is, most welterweights are fighting in the area of 187-195lbs. Not 220.
It seems your conflating walk-around-weight with cage-weight. Walk-around-weight is basically meaningless.

Well you've to be either really stupid or a fucking savage like Cro Cop to not cut 15 lbs to fight at LHW..
Fighters are getting paid a little more now, more structure so highly unlikely.
Crocop was destroyed by gatekeepers when he came to the US
