Will Volkanovski survive past Round 1?

His grip is like a pure machine from the future trying to exterminate you and won't let go.
Volk will need a lot of butter on his body to escape.

Yeah I think Volk is such a survivor that it's gonna take a more prolonged khabib style effort en route to a submission. Lots of survived attempts.

He will make it out of round 1, yes. I got Volk winning a decision here. Islam is good but championship experience counts for a lot here and Volk has that, he knows how to win these fights. Not only that, he's not gonna give Islam the same openings. He's a very smart and defensively savvy fighter who makes few mistakes.

I think Volk has a real chance of winning this fight. He is better standing. If he can avoid the prolonged ground and pound and/or submission and can work back to his feet, he wins this fight standing. Islam is the safer bet to win but Volk has a real chance.

Beebs org is petering out a bit, would love to see Islam go to ACA if he somehow lost to Volk though. A few guys over there who would be really good fights for him, that part of the world in MMA is way more prepared for his style.

Most of Islam's recent opponents have made it out of round 1 except for Dan Hooker and Bobby Green. Dober, Moises, Oliveira all made it at least to round 2.

Volk seems to have good sub defense and has been training a lot on escaping from bad positions so we'll see but it's a fight, anything can happen.

I think in the same way how Max "No turns unstoned" Holloway went up and got pushed around by DP, the same will happen to Volk. It will be an utter dismantling of Volk. The fact that Schaub already picked Volk to win, spells utter doom for Volk. Look for a one-side beatdown.
