I doubt it. I don't believe Silva is "showboating" as much as looking for an excuse to keep his hands low to avoid a takedown. I find that his showboating is typically reserved for fights against wrestlers and bjj fighters.

This exactly. Staying outside and keeping your hands down while moving lateraly is the best TDD strategy you can do. Just watch the first Weidmann fight. After Chris took him down and showed him that you do not want to be under him on the ground AS immediately want o this tactic.
He did have the same fear ( no fear is wrong lets say tactical approach ) with Maia.
