Champ will be better unless Dana and WME get cheaper. This sport is still evolving. Today's fighters are better then fighters 10 years ago and so on. BJ was probably the most dominant LW champion ever on that run. A BJ in his prime gets run over by Khabib, Tony, Kevin Lee, Michael Chandler, Conor and probably others.

Basically if WME doesn’t see you as a good fit for their champ they leave you in limbo like Ferguson fighting elite guys until he finally loses.

Or you can be the first and only FW Champ with a near decade reign over the division and not get the rematch they seem to give every long reigning champ... why...? because they wanted to Milk McGregor for any and every PPV buy the man is worth... Cody Garbrandt and his ridiculous rematch to only get finished in close to the same sequence, or the Jones atrocity.

Only as a distraction or slight of hand misdirection they’ll throw us a fight we want from time to time, sadly it seems between the company’s lust for cash and primadonna champs who most obviously duck we as fight fans have to deal with this mess.

Im not sure I can keep my interest much longer, I’ve been a fan since I went to one of the first events in Dothan Al in 95 IIRC. I’m honestly disgusted with what WME has made the UFC into WWE ver 2.0

Boxing has been around for hundreds of years. I think Prime Boxing era was because there wasn't as many sport options. Basically Boxing and Baseball, Pro Football and Basketball were no where near how they are today. More athletes means larger talent pool. Same reason most people say Baseball golden era has passed. But look at how much Basketball and Pro football have improved over last 50 years. MMA is such a young sport more and more kids train MMA at younger ages. Definitely think we will see steady improvement for a long time.

Someone new will probably come along, but now, BJ is still the lw goat. Will the division evolve? No, I don't think so. I don't see what can evolve past a bjj world champion with great wrestling, great kickboxing, unreal tdd, and the best reaction time in mma history.

1. Because the greatest fighters of the era have not been lightweights.
2. Because you specifically asked about lightweights but then referred to them as the greatest era of MMA.
