This is not an attack but a very serious question based on imperial observation. The gladiatorlike battles of yester year were tournaments, no gloves, no biting, no eye gouging, no weight limits that's it. I for one critically believe there is a certian mystique if you will to this.

What if a promotoin comes along and goes back to UFC's roots: Puts on a true NHB event? Kind of like what XFL was doing to football for several years.

Will this be the next phase in MMA? Will this be the new breed of fighter?

Won't do good with a bigger audience. So no.

Yeah this right here is just plain wrong

Impossible... No need for an explanation. Order Fightpass and welcome to MMA and Sherdog.

XFL was vince mcmahons creation OP is a wrestling smark definitely. But seriously UFC didn't take over anyone they are the original league XFL was supposed to change the way the NFL was.

Abolishing basic rules like biting and crotch striking will turn away a huge portion of the MMA base, and even hardcore fans like me possibly. I don't want to see biting in the sport, its not really a technique that you train and execute with precision. Same goes with eye gouging. Its not good for the sport, its sickening to see and not technique and skill based.

If a NHB promotion comes along they would get shut down in most parts of the U.S. because of the unified rules and general public outcry. They'd only be able to exist as a small org. In other parts of the world like 3rd world countries, they may be able to exist but wouldn't be nearly as big as the UFC.

This will not be the next phase of MMA, it just can't be popular enough. The fighters that would participate would be of marginal level because the pay would suck. You can't be paying guys 6 or 7 figures when few people are tuning in to see.

Where are they going to hold this? Russia? Somalia?

And what fighter with any talent will risk getting their eyes Gerald Gordeaued to fight in an obscure upstart promotion?

Don't hold your breath.

People never reverted to cavemen, neither will fighters.

They will if the moneys on the table. As it stands 90% of fighters are on the breadline struggling to make ends meet.

I think there is a market for real ultimate fighting. I bet if you took the product from the 1990s, with guys in sweatpants, mullets, gi, etc and put it side by side with today's UFC, the 1990s version would destroy the modern version in ratings.

I'm unsure if all things taken into consideration(PPV access and awareness relative to the time ect.) the first UFCs weren't more successful anyway. The sport did very well at first thus the public backlash.
