Since the beginning of the HW title no champion has ever defended the title 3 times. Is there any hope of this happening, or are the fighters simply too big, and too dangerous for this to ever occur? I'm thinking it never happens.

Edit: Do you think any current fighter has a chance of doing this?

It's just hard to imagine a HW being able to earn a title shot, (say on average 3 UFC fights), win the title, and then win 3 in a row. That's 7 in a row against basically the best in the world. The gloves are small, and injuries are really common. It's seeming more and more unlikely.

Maybe back when guys like Zulu were getting shots at it.

But in this era, not likely.

It really puts Fedor's career in a different light. After defeating Nogueira he may not have fought the best competition consistently, but he certainly did more than defend the belt 3 times against top competition.

it will most definitely happen. The problem is that the weight class spans 60 lbs., which leads to a huge range in challengers and strengths (big, strong wrestlers, small, quick strikers, etc). Someday we'll see another HW fighter, this time in the UFC, who moves well, is comfortable standing and on the ground, has solid standup, BJJ, wrestling, cardio and overall conditioning.

    I think Cain actually will.

Reem, werdum, jds rematch. Actually if he gets through those, it might be well over 3 cos those are the biggest 3 threats and he won't fight Cormier

There is always a Fedor of every generation of fighters. Mike Tyson, Ali, it always happens. It will happen again.

Maybe the next "Fedor" or GOAT is just a little kid right now playing with some little boxing gloves his dad got him for Christmas just to see if he'd like them?

I think Cain, JDS, and Overeem are all capable of getting 3 wins with the belt, because they're all capable of beating each other, it just depends on who is the better man at that moment.

just wait for the man, the legend, the god: Overeem to come in and steal that belt from cain by unleashing a fury of hell on his face. he will the process to clear out the rest of the division efortlessly. the man is on a completely different level and is unbeatable by anyone in our time.

Fedor is lucky he never had the PRIVLAGE of stepping in the ring with Overeem because he would have destroyed him just like he does with every other fighter.

You just posted really tough fights for cain. My attitude is 50/50 on each of those match-ups

To be honest I think Werdum whoops up on Cain and looks good doing it.

Possibly, but it's tough to do when one punch can end a fight at any time...

Considering we haven't seen him at HW yet that may be a bit premature.

Jones could win some fights at HW, but he's not winning too many in a row. Reem would smash.

    It's going to happen eventually.

A while ago some were wondering the same thing in the LHW division until Jones won the belt.

    Too bad that never happened.

    Try again.
