Now with streaming becoming the preferred method of watching shows/movies and streaming companies bending over for woke jackasses, will we see a resurgence of physical media (dvd, blueray, laserdisk, beta, vhs)?

Back when streaming for started it seemed all the episodes were available. But now Disney and HBO Max and etc are all censoring/removing offensive content...and this is usually the best content.

So of course if you like old shows like say Aqua Teen Hunger Force and want to see all the episodes...well you are going to have to buy or torrent the dvds.

Will this cause physical sales to rise? If vinyl can make a comeback, why not dvd/blue ray. Of course many shows nowadays are not getting a physical media release...but these are new shows already made under the new woke censorship fuckfaces.

And funny I was like, Why doesn't Adult Swim have good shows anymore? I used to watch a shitload of them like Children's Hospital and etc.
Well, found out. They are woke now too. Ugh.
It seems Adult Swims is lauding the censorship of old episodes. The SHivering Truth was a good show too ffs.

ARTICLE BELOW

According to a Daily Beast report this week, numerous episodes from several shows on the cable network Adult Swim have been deemed “problematic.” As a result, they have been permanently removed from the network and its streaming outlets, including HBO Max.

The affected shows are the raunchy, adult-oriented animated comedies: The Boondocks, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and The Shivering Truth.

As reported by the Daily Beast, the episodes were pulled without warning or announcement. Their absence was only later noticed by users on Reddit. “Eagle-eyed Redditors first noted the absence of Aqua Teen Hunger Force’s Season 6 episode ‘Shake Like Me’ from the series’ page on HBO Max in June.”

The premise of one indicted joke, from the Aqua Teen Hunger Force’s “Shake Like Me,” is that a black man becomes radioactive and proceeds to bite another character, transferring to him stereotypically African American traits and mannerisms.

As the Daily Beast added, a second guilty offender was an episode called “Boston,” which parodied a real-life bomb scare that was tied to the animated series’ feature film release in 2007.

The Adult Swim network defended its decisions in a statement, claiming the offending episodes have been “permanently retired due to cultural sensitivities,” adding that they have no plans to air them again. “When Adult Swim transitions series to a new platform … we determine what episodes are selected through creative and cultural filters and our standards and practices policies. Oftentimes these decisions are made in collaboration with the show’s creators.”

According to the report, a representative added that Adult Swim also axed an episode from another of the network’s shows, The Shivering Truth, again citing “sensitivity around current events.”

Moreover, the Daily Beast reported that Aaron McGruder, the creator of The Boondocks, declined to comment.

This incident wasn’t HBO’s first foray into the censorship of “unsavory content.” Last June, Comedy Central’s widely popular animated show, South Park, began streaming on HBO Max. However, HBO announced that in accordance with fundamentalist Islamic laws forbidding the depiction of Muhammad it would omit five episodes from the show’s canon that both depicted and satirized the Muslim prophet. Conversely, no such distinctions were made by HBO for crass humor hurled at Christian, Mormon, or Buddhist faiths.

Lately, networks pulling old episodes to abide by progressive platitudes and woke tenets has become a broader trend. Just last summer, at the behest of Tina Fey, Hulu pulled various episodes of 30 Rock (which reportedly contained depictions of blackface) from streaming. At the same time, Google Play and the iTunes both made them unavailable for purchase. Additionally, Hulu removed episodes from another show, Scrubs, for the same transgression. As noted by a Variety report, “Netflix has also removed an episode of Bob Odenkirk and David Cross’ 2015 comedy series ‘W/Bob and David’ that featured Cross in blackface.”

Such recent deletion of “offensive content” has not been limited to television shows. Last June, HBO Max temporarily removed the classic 1939 film adaptation of Margaret Mitchell’s Gone with the Wind, before restoring it with an addendum, clarifying the film’s historical context to soften its outmoded depictions of race. HBO Max followed suit with another indelible 20th-century classic, Mel Brook’s acerbic Western spoof, Blazing Saddles. In efforts to explain the historical context and Brooks’ humor, the network went as far as to hire University of Chicago professor Jacqueline Stewart to deliver a public service announcement at the beginning of the film, warning viewers of potentially offensive context – presumably advising that such a violent macabre of sarcasm and wit should be viewed with a real adult.

As wisely suggested by the top Reddit comment in the Daily Beast’s report, if you love a film, a TV series – or even a music record or a book – buy a physical copy. Unlike its conveniently streamed counterpart, the hard copy cannot be tampered or manipulated to conform to new trends or radical demands. If tomorrow’s publishers suddenly decide that adding a disclaimer to Gone with the Wind’s film adaption wasn’t sufficient, they will add a disclaimer to the novel – and there’s no reason to think they’re going to stop there.

Oh I'll torrent the everloving FUCK out of shows I want to watch (if they've been censored as OP"s article describes) LONG before I reach into my wallet and PAY them for the privilege.

Nah. I still buy dvds but I only have like 30ish probably. People who have been buying em still will probably and people who've stopped aren't going to go back.

These are only for old content

Movies, shows, video games from now on are going to be made with woke approval

I was watching Rush Hour 2 the other day on tv, and they aired a warning before the movie. Something about it containing 'outdated references that could be offensive' or something like that. I thought that was ridiculous. But at least they still left all the content in there. I don't see why adult swim couldn't just do a warning like that, instead of straight up removing entire episodes of shows that have already aired.

Yeah , I dont buy much digital content unless its the only option .
Small print is also pretty screwy on some forms of digital stuff.
Tbh Im not even a big fan of how video games can be manipulated after you buy them .
Sure it can be nice to get patches for some things but alot of these problems shouldnt have made it to the final release anyway .

But anyway , That bullshit Lucas pulled with star wars , plus my taste in weird cult ,horror and older obscure stuff has pretty much got me sticking with physical media . Too much stuff disappears and I dont like some stupid company determining when or if I can watch something. Also I dig the commentaries and features on a the discs.
Most people who are really into those kinds of things never really stopped buying it tbh.

I've noticed since covid hit that it seems like physical media prices going up a little anyone else nktice that?

Part of the trouble with streaming services is IMHO they have such a big brand they end up being more willing to censor to protect that brand. It used to be if a film/show had a negative reaction attempts to censor would be aimed just at that film/show, now though the focus tends to be more on the streaming services who are more likely to bend.

Basically Netflix and co becoming like Disney in terms of protecting the brand.

Very cheap DVD's and Blurays do seem to be getting a little harder to find although I think Amazon especially is pushing prices up a bit here often you can get stuff cheaper at other retailers now.

Generally I think the market for physical media is shifting more towards the higher end, boutique lables and/or UHD titles.

I do think there is probably a long term future there IF the studios want to carry on catering to it, the biggest threat isnt IMHO nobody being interested in buying physical media IMHO, rather I think its streaming services wanting a monopoly on content. Strong rumours Disney will not be putting out non Starwars/Animated UHD's for older films now, luckly Fox stuff like Alien, Predator and DIe Hard is already out there but we might never get Big Trouble in Little China and Aliens.

I read an interview with the DP from Mank and he said there wasn't any behind the scenes stuff being filmed so most likely no physical media release for that which is a shame. Fincher movies have historically had great packages.

I wouldnt be supprised if you saw a Criterion release down the line with some interviews/commentary similar to The Irishman, Roma and Marriage Story. Netflix probably don't want a relatively affordable bluray release in the short term though, these big releases are probably more loss leaders for them helping to get people to sign up.

fight club dvd was good.

This. You'll see an increase in piracy and illegal streaming long before physical media makes a comeback.

right but there are a lot of people who don't know how to steal shit

What's up now, digital only people?

Is HBO Max gonna censor gratuitous female full frontal nudity and genital on genital contact?

I recently bought two iTunes movies only because these two had full frontal nudity and really unlikely to find disc versions anywhere.

A life long love of indy music has taught me to never trust digital and that if you don't have the actual copy of the album you might never hear those songs again. I know several bands who no longer even have the masters anymore.

Hbo messing with gone with the wind and Disney censoring that mermaid movie of all things I saw the writing on the wall and have started buying movies from disc replay across the street when I want to watch something. Watching streaming movies I fear is going to be like a permanent Mandela effect where you are constantly saying to yourself I don't remember it this way

Games I never moved away from hard copies and I hate downloads cuz I'm always afraid when the next console comes out they will be like see you dont own this any more and are going to need to rebuy it or pay some money to access your library or something like that.
