I am a fan of Alistair, and he has made some great comebacks after tough losses but for some reason I don't see him really coming back from this one. His body language at the weigh in, and during the staredown was so tense to begin with and when the fight started he just looked scared.

He seems to be very strong mentally to me

You can only slam a drawer so many times...

Probably he is mentally tough enough but he needs to make a decision whether the risk is worth it.

Given the amount of KO's he has accumulated and it being obvious that he has a poor chin, I would suggest that he call it a day for his own safety.

He has done a lot in his career and provided some classic moments for us, I'll miss him when he's gone.

I think he's used to being KTFO. In fact, he was probably having withdrawal symptoms from not being KTFO'd recently.

hes had a lot of fights in his career, hes been down this road before.

Overeem is one of the baddest mofos on the planet. There is no reason to doubt his mental toughness.

Most people would quit after a few KOs. Overeems been KO"d so many times now and yet he still pressed forward. That's one great quality we can all agree on.

Being Ko'd is not an easy thing to take mentally. Just look at Ronda and how she's been awol after 1 KO. Overeem has been brutally KO'd 4 times more then Ronda in the UFC. That's some legit determination.

Nah he's come back many times. It's the age with his reaction, timing and power based style.

I'm sure he'll get over the loss quicker than the hit he took getting clowned by Rogan in the post fight.

Terrible strategy does not indicate mental strength to me. He did not want to stand and trade with Miocic which is understandable but surely he must have had some other plan if Stipe was trying to force him into boxing range. For such a experienced fighter he looked lost on the ground very poor defense. I mean Alistair has a excellent submission game but seemed to have no hope of defending the Gnp. When he did knock Stipe down his guillotine was weak. Thinking he mentally lost this fight from the start. Too bad amazing fighter.

Overeem needs to lash out at some of his lightweight sparring partners to regain his confidence.

You know this is like the 10th time he's been brutally KO'd right? Edit: it actually is 10 times. :D

I'm sure he can win some more if he can avoid getting hit like he did when he won 4 in a row.

yes his chin is not great and he knows it but trust me if it was Werdum or Arlovski or most of the HW'S last night Overeem would have won. Stipe has a great chin. Overeem connected 3 times with full force but Stipe has a giant head and absorved them like nothing

Huh? Why would Overeem think he lost the fight before he even started?

Stipe was in a brutal war with JDS and JDS got KTFO by Overeem. He also got KTFO by Struve who Overeem also KO'd. I'd be confident as hell if I were him.

Who knows? Overeem dropped Stipe with the 1st punch and could be the champion right now if he followed it up with his brutal GNP.

One little mistake can cost you a win in MMA and all sports to be frank.

he seems to handle his losses well
and has had a million fights
appears mentally strong to me

strategy is just that strategy
not strength

he crumpled to those strikes on the ground
like instant pudding
which is another thing altogether
