Will LHW go back to post-Chuck, pre-Jones era

    what I mean by this is that Chuck had 4 successful defenses before losing to Rampage. After that here is how the belt went

    Rampage - 1 defense, lost to griffin
    Griffin - lost first defense to Evans
    Evans - lost first defense to Machida
    Machida - defended the belt once (controversially) before losing to Shogun
    Shogun - lost his first defense to Jones
    Jones then went on to defend the belt multiple times as we all know.

    My question is do you think that Cormier will defend multiple times or will he lose and the belt gets passed from contender to contender?

    I actually think that he'll beat Gustafsson, beat Jones in the rematch but lose to Rumble in the rematch

    I could see this. Rumble with a longer camp >

    Cormier and Jones are completely different fighters

    It depends on the Jones situation. If/when he comes back, he will take the belt again.

    Apart from that, I can see it being very even throughout the top 4 or 5 in the division. There are several very good fighters, but not one that's that far ahead of the rest anymore.


    Very similar to Welterweight and GSP.

    I think Gus beats him by stuffing TDs, breaking clinch and picking him apart at long range. After this, I'm not sure. Probably Evans/Bader winner gets a title shot.

    Jones is a jackass, no doubt about it, but I can't take anyone else seriously as champ in this division. They are all just placeholders until he returns.

    I have confidence that DC can defend his title and establish himself as a legitimate and deserving champ, the only fight that tends to worry me is the Jones rematch.
    You know, if that ever actually happens.

    DC snuggies his way to defend. He'll hold, clinch and pray he doesn't have to box anyone. Get ready for some really boring LHW title fights

    I don't see anyone beating Cormier but Jones. I think he'll light up Gustaffson, and Rumble had nothing for him other than raw power.

    Remind me how long that Cormier specific training camp was, counting of course the time before a fight that a fighter usually isn't doing anything contact oriented?

    Nope, I think Cormier will rule the division until Bones comes back.

    Hoping Gus can get the W though.

    Fair enough.
    But we saw plenty of equally methodical and boring title defenses from GSP.
    And he's regarded as one of the best champions ever.

    I think Cormier can actually keep the other contenders at bay until Jones returns. It would be like a mini-Jones era.

    Agree that Cormier will do enough to hold the belt until Jones returns and takes it back - which is undoubtedly will. Until Bones is back, the division is just killing time.
