I see a bunch of people picking Jose by submission, so I imagine that a good amount of people see Jose scoring the takedown. Although Mendes was able to take down Conor, I don't think Jose is half the offensive wrestler that Chad is. I don't think Jose will be able to take down McGregor if he goes for the takedown unless the takedown is extremely well times, which I don't see. What is your opinion on this?

If Aldo wants to take you down, he's going to take you down. It's if you've never seen him fight before.

I'm not even sure if he's going to shoot on him to be honest. I think if he committed he definitely could but I see Jose standing with him.

No, that is not true. Aldo's offensive wrestling is nothing special. Not to say he won't take McGregor down, but you act like he has Mendes level takedowns.

Aldo doesn't have the blast-double of Chad, but he sets up his TD's in sneaky ways and can transition from striking to waistlock to TD very quickly. Yes, he can take Conor down.

Yes, but can he keep there? That's the part I'm wondering about.

Thank you to the mod who added the poll.

I voted no. I do think that Jose CAN take Conor down, but not at a high percentage enough to effect the fight. It is not like Mendes, where Conor knows the takedown is coming and can't stop it. If Conor knows the takedown is coming, he will be able to stop it.

Easily

Aldo will dominate McGregor on the ground if he decides to put him there,

but to be fair McGregor will probably let him take him down as we know Aldo doesn't like using an offensive sub game and mcgoob will use it as a chance to strike right off the standup ala mendes fight

So frankly I think Conor doesn't really care about being taken down

If someone like Maia was taking down Conor you bet your ass he'd be training TDD but I think he's confident enough in himself in finishing aldo/winning rounds with his gameplan to not worry about TD's against Aldo specifically

yeah he has great takedowns

Aldo has amazing positional control. It's the best part of his ground game actually.

He does have good positional control, I agree. I would say this is because he doesn't take many risks. He doesn't go for the sub in favor of keeping control and landing GnP.

Great? I think that's a bit of an exaggeration. He has decent takedowns, but they are not great. Maybe I am overlooking his takedown game though.

In what fight did he show great takedowns? I remember him dropping Hominick and retaining top control, but did he score more than one TD against Hominick?

Didn't Siver take Conor down twice? His TDD is nothing special. Aldo can take him down.

Probably not, not even Mendes could. Mcgregor is no white belt on the ground, he knows how to keep himself safe after he's taken down. And he's gonna get taken down, no doubt about it.

Conor's tdd isn't anything special... You're right about Aldo's wrestling not being as good as Chad's but not many ppls is. IMO Aldo's wrestling and takedowns >>> Conor's tdd. You're argument about Chad might hold some water if Conor wasn't wrestled fucked by him for most of the fight. Conor said he didn't train wrestling for their original bout, which if you ask me means he is expecting a stand up fight and takedowns are much easier to get when they're unexpected... A win for Aldo via submission is just as feasible as any other outcome in this fight. Aldo has amazing timing, he can catch those wild kicks (most good mt guys can catch kicks easily) and a 70 something takedown percentage rate. Do the math and focus less on the hype.
