Will Conor simply ‘Alvarez’ Khabib?

Conor didn’t let Alvarez get close enough to get a takedown and kept him at range. This was after Alvarez saying for years he had the blueprint to beat Conor.

Khabib is obviously a better grappler/wrestler than Alvarez but he still need to get in close to get those takedowns. Conor has also vastly improved his TDD.

So will he be able to do the same to Khabib as he did to Alvarez?

It could happen. Khabib does his work from the clinch so he needs to get close, he doesn’t have a blast double (that we’ve seen).

Conor’s very fast early in fights and not dumb. He knows what he needs to do to win.

Completely different fighters.

Khabibs grappling >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Eddies

As a Conor fan I was not worried about Eddie's grappling coming into the fight. I am worried about Khabib's, however.

It's possible but a smart fighter would learn from Eddie's mistakes and come with a different strategy even if the goal is the same - to get Conor on the ground. Even tho he lost, Mendes is a good blueprint for getting Conor on the canvas... Although khabib's stand up is nowhere near Mendes

I rewatched the fight against Alvarez recently. I think he just mentally checked out that fight. He got dropped a few times, but he wasn't out of it. His best strikes in the fight were his kicks. Every time that he tried to throw a combination, McGregor caught him. And yet, in the final sequence, he lunged in with another combination instead of keeping calm, being patient and continuing with the kicks and trying to close the distance for a takedown or some clinch work. Honestly, in that last combination that he tried I think he wanted to be knocked out. There just was no reason to do again something that cost him being dropped a few times previously in the fight instead of trying to do something that was being more effective.

I think he needs to Chael Sonnen Conor. Khabib has to take shots, as well as give shots. He can't telegraph anything. I think if he can manage to cut off Conor and even do one of his crazy blitzes, i.e. flying knee to takedown it could be a long night for Conor. Unlike Mendes, I don't see Conor getting up until the round is over.

But yeah ultimately for Conor he needs to hurt Khabib badly and quickly (Aldo, Alvarez) Khabib needs to survive and pressure.

I remember Eddie being super aggressive and trying to trade in that fight. I don’t remember him trying to grapple until he was desperate. I might remember it wrong

Yeah and his striking is worse. As a matter fact it’s flat out fucking awful. You should re-watch his last fight. Because his Striking D is some of the worst I have ever seen. And he’s fighting the last guy on the planet you want to fight when you’re striking defense sucks.

That’s what happens to people that fight this Irishman and make mistakes on the feet. One little mistake and that happens.

Khabib is not a 5'6" manlet either. He's a LOT bigger than Alvarez. And he is not going to try and go mano y mano with McG.

As I said originally, COMPLETELY different styles.

Conor has a punchers chance, that much I can certainly admit.

Can you admit Khabib has an equal chance should he be able to get ahold of McG?

1 TD He’s not winning the fight. And they are basically the same height but the Russian has a 4 inch reach disadvantage. Not good. Not good because his striking sucks. And any little mistake and the Irishman makes you pay.

Aren’t you doing the same thing? Do you think he gets one take down and it’s all over? Correct?

This raises the question that is seemingly disregarded by everyone.

How would khabib react once he gets hit?? We haven't seen him taking any noticeable damage. Would he have a brain fart like eddie ? Or keep his composure like nate?

Nope....You must not be paying attention.

I've repeatedly said that Conor has a punchers chance in the stand-up.

The Difference on the feet is astronomical. This russian literally cannot strike. His last attempt at striking was awful. He was coming in with his chin straight up in the air and throwing looping punches. Watch Conor’s fights. His counters are literally up there with Anderson Silva in his prime.

That's all fine and dandy, but this is >MMA<, not boxing or kick-boxing.

Conor can certainly beat him in the stand-up, but once shit hits CLINCH range, he is in for a rough night.

McG needs RANGE to do his damage. Khabib is a pressure fighter who smothers his opponent.

Conor MIGHT be able to sleep him before getting handled, or Khabib might get ahold of him and violate him.

Alvarez has no fight iq the guy is a brawler with heart look at his fights and look at khabibs fights and tell me how the fuck is Eddie Alvarez comparable to Khabib. Alvarez fought Conor EXACTLY the way Conor wanted Alvarez to fight Conor the same old trap get someone emotionally invested in a standup fight... Khabib is too smart for that his fight I.Q. is much higher than anyone really that Conor has faced BESIDES floyd mayweather in boxing.

This is not going to be hard for Khabib to clinch up once he locks up on Conor then what is Conor going to do throw a left hand from inside the clinch? i haven't seen Conor with any good dirty boxing... so he's no threat once you clinch up with him and Khabib clinches with him he's going down it's simple.
