Why wouldnt they make Pettis-Nate Diaz?

• Nate matches up well with him (Pettis doesn’t wrestle) if keeping Nate relevant is the goal
• There is bad blood between them and it would make a great story
• Poirier is exciting af but not the most interesting man in the world
• Pettis has been calling out Nate since beating Chiesa

Nate could fight Diego Sanchez at lw and if Conor wants that fight that’s what the ufc will make and they will bump Nate to #2 for beating him.

Diaz hasn’t fought at LW since 2015 and is 2-3 in his last five. There is no legitimacy to his ranking either. The ufc made him a permanent staple in the top 10 when he fought Conor and a trilogy was eminent.

Also I know the UFC isn't willing to put Pettis in a fight of this caliber on the NYC card after he tried to really hit them up for more money when they came to him to fight Khabib. Pettis kicks very hard and likes to do it. He could very well cripple Nate with just a few low kicks and probably get in some other sick kicks.
Then again it's also very possible he gets hits a bit and gets uncomfortable, maybe he wouldn't be able to set up strikes with the constant Diaz pressure then.

Pettis probably wouldn't have a good time on the ground with Nate but on the other hand, Nate is one of the few guys who won't be aiming to just lay on him either.
