Why don't we see anymore the likes of past champs such as BJ, Randy, Hendo (outside the UFC) or even Anderson (fighting @ LHW, not for the belt but still makes a point)

I've read many threads on Aldo where ppl have stated & honestly believe that Aldo thrashes everyone @ LW except for one or two top guys in that div, so why the hell not?

Has Aldo publicly stated that he does not wish to be as awesome as BJ, Randy, etc & hold 2 belts @ the same time?

He's fought @ LW in the past, some may argue he's very big for FW & LW is his natural weight, as well as it could very well benefit his cardio as he tends to lose steam in the championship rounds

It's obvious he has a very good chance @ gaining the LW strap (being so dominant one weight class down) yet he won't & why? too much pressure, responsibility, competition, what is it?

Anyone could argue against this proposition by mentioning Jon Jones, however there's a difference between 145lb-155lb (10 pounds) & 205lb-265lb (60 pounds)

IMO gone are the days of old school fighters with that 'anytime, anywhere, any weight' mentality

He wants to.

He's stuck at FW right now because the UFC had to give Mendes a title shot or risk him walking away.

After that fight hopefully he moves up to LW and Pettis is ready for the fight of his life.

Everything he does he has the goal of not losing his belt. It shows in the cage and it shows in the fights he does or doesn't accept.

Wow you think way to high of aldo. He wont do shit vs. good wrestlers at 155, and what 2nd belt are you talking about? UFC owners like him where he is fighting weirdos because they refuse to recruit people at those little weight classes. They want to keep the Brazilian hope alive.

After the Mendes fight , I hope he moves to LW and leaves the FW for Barao. And Faber would finally have a belt.

pettis would kill him, hell korean zombie was starting to get to aldo.
Aldo better run far far away from mendes cause little wants to end aldo.

Why move up?! He's been defending the featherweight title forever and he could break all of Silva's records by staying at F.W. Would Aldo at L.W be fun? Yes, but he doesn't need to do that. I want to see Aldo break all the records before changing classes.

Aldo would be required to vacate his belt at FW in order to challenge for the LW title. Aldo doesn't want to do that. I assume he gets paid a lot more as a title holder at FW than he would as a challenger in the LW division.

I don't think so. This is a move that Dana will support fully. He will get paid more. That's the way I see it.

I don't recall BJ vacating the LW belt to challenge Hughes for the WW title.
If that's true in this day & age, then that's just plain stupid!

Aldo lost his primal fire and killer edge some time ago.

Shows in all his fights since Hominick

Who cares about records, they're just numbers to me, when u can have an even more impressive resume for beating the top guys @ a weight class above yours as well as hold 2 consecutive titles.
If Aldo cleans out his division in 1-2 years time, then the competition becomes weaker & I don't wanna live in a world where Aldo doesn't move up.

"Him walking away"...yeah right.

He shouldn't have to give up his belt to fight for another belt.

I'm back and forth on the idea that a champion should have to relinquish his belt to challenge for another. On one hand, it would suck to drop your title and lose when you try for the other title. His records would be gone and if he goes back, he'd have to win it back from someone else who never beat him to get it.

But I also see where this could create problems if a champ of a lighter division wants to move up and challenge for a belt without risking his own title to do it. If they lose, they and their fans could (most likely would) claim that it wasn't their natural weight class. Their legacy wouldn't be hurt that much either because fans would say they went up to fight a champ. Hell, they'd be applauded by most for having the balls to do it as long as they weren't outclassed in the fight.

Smaller champs would have a lot to gain by calling out another heavier champ and little to lose. It wouldn't be that much of a risk for a chance at a huge reward.

Then there I also the problem of jumping over the guys who have struggled at the weigh class trying to get their shot at the title. Is it really fair to them to be bypassed for a guy that hasn't fight at their weight?

I don't know the answers.
