Why was Tyrone Spong or Joe Schilling never signed to UFC

Joe has a losing record, and Spong likely asked for too much money.

Probably because the UFC wouldn't let them take kickboxing fights while under contract unlike Bellator.

Will spong cause he needs more mma fights and schilling probably get more money

Same reason Rico Verhoeven hasn't been signed with UFC yet. They are popular in Kickboxing & it's uncertain if that translate in a same manner in the UFC. So there's no guarantee of making the same money they are making from Glory, in case of Schilling he has a lucrative offer from Bellator Kickboxing. None of them are available for them in UFC.

I had high hopes for Spong's MMA career but I don't think it's going to work out. He seems more interested in trying out boxing now. Probably a good thing, really, because there should be less of a "learning curve" there.

Both went to other organisation where they are more liberal, they have other terms of exclusivity. If they were to sign with the UFC they could not continue to compete with kickboxing, meanwhile competing in MMA. So they both made good career choices.

Basically the UFC don't take risks as a near monopoly in order to maximise profit and the MMA talent pool suffers for it.

What makes it worse is that getting kickboxing talent should be easier now than it was in the days of Crocop and Hunt when K-1 was strong. If the UFC had cared to invest I think they could have had there pick of loads of Glory talent.

How many of UFC fighters can make a name in the Glory? Apart from Alistair there's none.
Well, these are 2 different things.
Alistair will not make anything in Glory in 2016
The k-1 Reem was a roided up version of himself, in one of the weakest years of K1 gp, defeating Gokhan Saki in finals, who fought with one arm.

I would've loved to see Spong in the UFC.

I believe he's moved to boxing because of his horrific 'rubber boot' tibia/fibula break. I don't think he has confidence in that leg anymore. Not for kicking or checking.

I think he's done in kicking combat sports.

And can you blame him?

Because Melvin Manhoef...

And yet he knocked out Mark Hunt..... one of the top UFC HW's. Despite what.... a 80 pound or so weight disadvantage?

Clearly not UFC level....
K1 fighter knocked out K1 fighter.
Din't choke, didn't GNP, he knocked him out.
Do you feel the difference?
Being a strong knockout artist doesn't mean that you are going to do well in UFC.
Moreover, Manhoef has a mediocre TDD.
Let's just cut it right here.
