Why was the Dodson/Moraga fight stopped?

This piece from MMA weekly says the doctor stopped the fight because of a cut across Moraga's nose. I dont see why that would stop the fight or be particularly dangerous to continue. Its not like its bleeding into his eyes, or a broken bone. Has there ever been a doctor stoppage for a less significant injury?

Well they said the doctor made the stoppage but when I look at the video it looks like someone in his corner actually told the doctor it was over. He didn't get mad or argue with the doctor which is a pretty clear sign they asked for it. He did yell but it seemed as though it was just frustration, he didn't direct it at the officials.

 

His nose got obliterated, that's why.

 

it was probably because the nose was broken, and to keep fighting with it broken like that could cause him a number of serious problems.

I was actually quite glad to see a corner stop the fight/ask for the fight to be stopped. Finally a corner that seems to really care about the well being of their fighter.

 

Not all breaks are the same. He must have had it broken badly for them to stop the fight.

His nose was internally boosted. Dodson could just take him down and lay and pray pressuring the hand over on his nose that would cause major damage.

Between this and the Diego robbery, I'm inclined to believe it was hometown cooking.

 

I think he wanted out, honestly.

 

Oh well, better safe than sorry.

 

This is nowhere near at least Dodson was earning his victory anyway.

 

It's bullshit for sure.

 

Watching the fight, when the camera was close in on Moraga on the stool inbetween rounds, I heard somebody saying "This kid's done. He's done, he's done." then another voice saying "Ref you gotta let... Judge you gotta let him, us finish this fight, it's one round." Then, the doctor, to the right, at Moraga's left, shakes his head to that response.

 

I agree with this. During the replay, you can clearly see/hear the doctor say to the ref "I'm going to keep my eye on it." Then he turns and talks to Moraga and/or his cornerman, and only THEN does he stop the fight. 5-10 seconds earlier he was telling the ref he would keep an eye on it, insinuating the fight would be allowed to continue.

 

If I remember correctly there was even a moment after he got tagged by that knee that he sort of looked at the ref and it almost seemed like he wanted to complain about a foul or something before Dodson swarmed on him. He had this look like, hey, can he do that to me? I don't think I want to be here anymore.
