Why was the crowd so dead?

During the DC fight, the crowd was even booing when Cormier had Henderson mounted. Cormier never once stopped attacking, and was just doing whatever he wanted with Dan. He had his back, side mount, mount, taking him down at will and if it was any other fighter, DC would've gotten the TKO. If it was GSP fighting, the crowd would've been going nuts for every little thing he did.

Because Dan is an old school legend that most people want to see getting KO's not being out wrestled.

The crowd knew it was a mismatch and that made it uncomfortable to watch.

Because most of the fights were pretty boring except the Main Event

Once it goes to the ground 90% of the arena can no longer see what is going on. Ground fighting destroys the atmosphere. Unfortunately for anyone in attendance, the Cormier fight was a time to take a piss before the main event. A round and a 1/2 in, pretty sure everyone realized how that fight plays out. Not that it was a bad fight, but watching a fight live, then having to switch to watching the tv screens to watch a 1 sided wrestle fest with no commentary sucks.

So the real question is what the UFC can do to fix that shit?

Dan Henderson has struggled with guys that are average in the welterweight division. DC was wrecking guys at heavyweight and Cain is lucky they are friends. DC and Dan are worlds apart. I just hope DC gets his hands on Jones.

DC's ground game was way too safe and more of a cardio attack than a real attempt to GnP.

He was late in the 3rd round before he even risked going for a finish. Mostly he just wanted to grind out a safe 3 round top-control game.

Yeah, that's the thing though. When GSP does it, the crowd loves it. I'd say Cormier's even more aggressive and he seeks to finish. But he gets no love lol

Because they love Hendo and wanted to see the old man KO the bigger, younger, more polished fighter that was DC.

Guys that shoot every four seconds and look to maintain top control don't generally get people all that fired up.

DC is obviously a very adept grappler and a powerful man, but unless you're deep into amatuer wrestling as an artform inside the cage, his fights can be chores.

Because MMA is just growing too fast for them to keep up with it.

But seriously the real answer is....

cuz

Ben Askren walked into the arena to check on the action and everyone feel asleep.

GSP at least made a takedown exciting because he had a great power double.
