Dude weighed in at like 199lbs.

Is it possible he struggled to build the necessary muscle mass, now that he's off TRT?

Yup, looks like if he continues it'll have to be at MW.

He should really retire, he slurs his speech pretty bad these days, sounds punch drunk

that was my first thought as well

he looked in very good shape, but not swollen and scary like in the past years.

It's going to be harder for a man to retain muscle mass well into his 40's. Hendo has always been a small to average LHW even when on TRT though (he weighed in at 204 for the Evans fight). Also, the weight difference was shown to a greater extent because Cormier is so freakishly strong at LHW.

you might be right. hendo's recent weigh ins

    199 vs. cormier
    202 against shogun II
    204 vs. belfort
204 vs. evans (he was off trt for this fight too btw).
205 vs. Machida (who was only 202)
    203 vs. shogun

it might be hard to keep on the weight with his training. 202 vs. 199 might just be hydration or how big a shit he took. but 204 or 205 vs. 199 seems like a lot.

it's ridiculous to give up 20 or so pounds to the average opponent. machida's one of the few guys like dan who were natural LHWs, hovering just below 205.

hes almost mid 40's. there comes a time where you have to sacrifice muscle mass for flexibility, speed and stamina.

Weight cuts also become much much harder at that age, especially for someone who is as lean as hendo.

its age man, it will debilitate things like muscle mass so you need to adjust to suit your body type.

lol at people saying because hes off TRT. he weighed in at 202 for the shogun fight while he was still using TRT. hes just not a LHW and needs to drop to MW.

199 to me seems like its a little too light to be a conscious decision.

I'd say neither are natural LHW's.

you guys forget that Hendo is really built for MW or WW...the weigh difference is only a few lbs from his fights.. .he is just one of those guys that never cuts weight for fights....from my understanding he wanted to be faster than cormier for the fight, he probably did more cardio causing himself to lose a couple extra lbs

    he doesn't cut weight bro.

the most logical explanation is lack of TRT.

a natural LHW weighs between 186 and 205. everyone else cuts from 220 and is not a natural LHW. cutting 15 or 20 pounds of water over two days to make weight means that people are not fighting at their natural weight.

hendo and machida are both at their natural weights when they fight LHW.

I can see what you are saying but to me a "Natural LHW" is a guy who should fight at LHW not a guy who weighs in that range normally.

    Just a terminology difference really.

Goes to show how tough he really is. The dude is almost 44, and has been in some wars. One of the toughest guys to ever fight. And that was my first thought as well as to why he weighed in so light. Time makes mortals of us all! I hope he retires, he has nothing left to prove.

yes. i was the only wrestler aside from HW on our HS team who didn't cut weight, and i sometimes went up one or two classes above my natural weight, so i always see it from that perspective/ :p
