Why was Charles Bronson so beloved?

He'll puke on you
He'll fuck your mom

You could argue I spose it was a bit of an odd time for cinema in terms of box office. Some new Hollywood films were making serious money but they didnt really tend to be star vehicles, Bronson or Eastwood in a tough guy thriller was probably as close to dependable box office as you could get in the mid 70's.

But he was just an old guy in a mustache

Bronson made great bad movies that were fun to watch. 10 To Midnight was awesomely bad. Comparing him to Redford and Newman is kind of like comparing JCV to Tom Cruise. JCV was fun and some of his films may have briefly out grossed a couple of Cruises (okay, maybe not lol), but JCV ain't no Tom Cruise.

Most of them have a schtick that they stick to

Because he's straight alpha in his theatre and his life.

Not the greatest actor by any means, but simply carried a mild, understated presence ready to fuck anything up. People adored that in the 70's. And while he had a bit of a scrub head, was thoroughly yoked. Dude probably ran with a 9" dong for the trifecta.

And right through to today. Chuck is a legend of the silver screen no matter how you slice it.
