Social Why the Term Jedi Is Problematic for Describing Programs That Promote Justice, Equity,Diversity,,

Imagine having so little problems in life that you have to take issue with the lore of fucking Star Wars.

I don't think any lore or movie should be above criticism when the script is lousy or meh.

In the case of Anakin's mother, it just comes across as lazy script writing. The Jedi didn't rescue Anakin's mother because the script needed Anakin to get pissed many years down the road when he finds his mother murdered. I think the script writers, of such a massive iconic franchise, could have done a hellva better job of inventing a reason for Anakin to be mad.

People shit on Prometheus and Covenant because one expected better script writing / Alienverse building. In Promethes the script writers needed to advance the plot so they took the easy way out by creating moronic scientists.

Oh god... Promethius... I wanted that to be awesome so bad... And you could see elements there.

But those fucking idiot scientists.... Just imagine if those clowns were working at the Wuhan lab... well, now that I think about it.

I mean Jedi aren't really a good example of leadership for anyone. An unelected shadow government of powerful individuals deciding how the galaxy should be ruled. Not to mention they're religious zealots.

At least the Sith, specifically Palpatine, was open about goals of squashing resistances to the empire

That was my reaction while watching Last Jedi.

The Jedi are pretty Islamisist themselves, by my estimation. An all-powerful order of religious extremists who strongly influence government policy and who find greater power through losing their lives in battle with the unfaithful? Come on, man - just 'cos the 72 hazy-blue virgins are never on-screen doesn't mean they're not there.

Palpatine was just trying to bring about the separation of Church and state, and was executed as an apostate.
Truly a tragic story.

The Jedi are based on my old mob.

- Highly trained, elite warriors who follow a strict religious path. They even hold the title of, "Knight".

- Individual members swear vows of poverty and chastity. But the Order itself is immensely wealthy and powerful.

- They do not reveal their secrets to outsiders and follow the will of their, "God" rather than secular authority.

- They were manipulated and wiped out almost to the last man by a charismatic and ruthless member of a royal family(Palpatine's ancestors had been Kings of Naboo and he takes the title of Emperor).

I remember being a kid and conservative evangelicals being outraged over Lucas creating a fiction called "the Force" to overshadow and obscure the Holy Spirit in the minds of children.

May the Woke be with you.

I know, thought maybe you dredged this up from some random hack site but I was a bit shocked to see it was SA.

I'm okay with media criticism but this is just getting ridiculous. Its like there's a checklist and you can go judge any past work according to the check list and almost autogenerate a "critical" essay on it.

Imagine applying the values of 21st century liberalism to the fucking Jedi Order lmao.

If you're world building for a fantastical science fiction universe and your characters mirror your audience's values then you're a scrub.
I think it can have a productive purpose, though often these things are anything but productive and that includes this article. But looking at past works of art that have been influential to millions and exploring concepts that were established or perpetuated by those works, whether consciously or subconsciously, can help us understand how we've developed to be what we are as a society and how we might improve going forward.

It only hit me the other day how much wrestling stereotypes led to my xenophobic worldview as a young person. It intensified the more subtle xenophobia of my surroundings, and the wild thing is I knew they weren't accurate representations but cartoonish parodies. It was just wild to see how it effected me and to think of how society influenced it as well.

When they brought supposedly brought Paplatine it felt weird.

Why do we just not ignore these fuckers?

Because outrage porn has become really popular and there's a whole Lotta folks who can't wait to not only read this shit and get pissed but spread it and make sure everyone else gets pissed too.

I'm all but positive most of this shit is written by troll farms hostile to our country for the sole purpose of doing our society harm.

Essentially they’re spreading their word causing more harm

Are we all going to pretend to not realize the horrific treatment of the Wookies? Where's PETA?

Basically to argue the propaganda doesn't go anywhere is to deny all the examples how all the published articles and (news agencies and colleges giving these opinions platforms) flows down to denying people they don't like jobs because of "diversity" (like an airline saying it's going to give top jobs to non-whites), racist safe spaces etc. It's not like it's some random tweet either.

I've never heard of this stupid shit even once and have gradually stopped checking in on Scientific American (a glorified pop science outlet and publication) over the last few years. What a bunch of fucking dorks. Star Wars is trash too, 'cept for the Bass God.
