Why the Good TV Ratings for UFC on Fox 22 (Van Zant-Waterson) Are Great for the UFC

It should be borne in mind that FOTN was the women's bantamweight fight between Leslie Smith and Irene Aldana. It was an exciting fight, and even though it opened the Fox pre-lims I posted before seeing the other fights that it could turn out to be FOTN. It wasn't a difficult or mysterious prediction. It was a damn good fight.

And of the two Performances of the Night, one went to Michelle Waterson.

My point is that a lot of the women's divisions fights attract MMA fans for solid MMA reasons: good fights.
Women's mma can also cater a female audience and all around audience based on sex appeal

America has spoken

Fighters should be pretty

Eventually TUF will be nothing but blond-haired, blue-eyed models with "crossover potential." Title shots will be determined by who has the most YouTube views. All champions will have to do vlogs and movies.

Good looking people have always been good marketing, just look at hollywood. Also it is pretty interesting seeing whether a model can bash a tattooed convict, but at the end of the day the concept will lose it's appeal sooner or later. The only way to explode for real, like millions of dollars real, is to smash champions and defend belts.

Soon the public will realize what MMA fans have known since UFC 1, looking tough, having shiny muscles and bad tattoos does not make you a good fighter. You might get smashed by some chubby dude or a model with a purple belt.

UFC is just crossing it's fingers that another person who generates interest but is actually one of the best fighters in the world comes along. They are going to have make a bunch of failed bets though, only 1 champ and some champs reign for years. If you get stuck with one people don't care about that's the way it goes.
