Specially here in Mexico. They ask him to move up and Fight GGG in a weight he has never fought before, but they don't ask GGG to fight Ward or Kovalev.
I get he's the middleweight champion, but I feel like people just want to see him lose so they can say "you see? I was right. He's all hype"
For fuck sake! He's only 25!! He's respectful, very dedicated at his profession and his style of fighting is pretty agressive. It's pretty sad that mexican people cheers for GGG against Canelo...

Why do you think he has so many detractors?

Because he fights at a made up weight limit despite the fact he's as big as most guys in the weight class he holds the belt at.

It's cowardly and its bad for boxing.

Thanks for proving the point I made days ago about how his own Mexican fans have turned on him, yet it was disputed by a certain member on this forum even after I proved it.

Canelo is a Middleweight champion, is he not? He would rather fight at 155 catch than 160 to avoid Triple G. He doesn't deserve any Middleweight title to begin with because he's never fought at 160, as you said. I'm not talking Junior Middleweight, I'm talking Middleweight at the 160 limit, what GGG consistently fights at as champion.

How is moving up 5 pounds from 155 to 160 the same as moving up 15 for GGG from 160 to 175? Ward and Kovalev are at 175 (Light Heavyweight), in case you forgot.

Mexicans cheer for GGG because he's a true warrior that will fight anybody in his division. That's why. He doesn't engage in duckery there and doesn't play politics.

It's sad to hear that he has detractors in Mexico. I thought all of the heat was coming from American internet posters.

I think a lot of fans feel that the whole 155lbs scenario with GGG is bull shit as they are a very similar size and he just wants to drain Golovkin when they fight / wait for him to age to gain an advantage.

It doesn't come across as a very "warrior" like mentality.

Mexican fans haven't turned on him. They were never much up on Canelo. Like I've said before they're just starting to warm up to him. A lot of the belief in Mexico is he was a fabricated boxing great pumped up by a lot of the local network TV sports stations because of his looks and fighting so young. All the woman sportscasters, (and theres a TON down there) swooning over him during broadcasts and TV folks acting like he's the next JCC by the time he was something like 21-22. The backlash has been he hadn't fought anyone and no one will EVER be the next JCC, not to mention some of the machismo jealousy... I think that's a big part of him taking such hard fights back to back to back since the Floyd fight, and the same reason folks are now starting to jump on the bandwagon. Cause he's been winning very challenging fights.

But don't get me wrong, he has quite a bit Mexican fans because he's first and foremost Mexican pure blooded and from Guadalajara, (I'm betting more fans than GGG), but like most folks here in the States, people everywhere are more "frenzied" for the KO guy we all call GGG.

eh, like I've pointed out before, Canelo is just one of dozens of big name fighters who has/does fight at catchweights but It was never this big of an issue before. Also, the only catchweight fight he's demanded since becoming MW champ was the Khan fight, who was a smaller guy coming up. Everyone has said they have no issue with that happening. It was Cotto who asked for the catchweight in their fight.

Lets actually wait and see what happens with the Golovkin negotiation before we decide that the man is "cowardly."

Its just emotional Golovkin fans pretending that this isn't just how the sport is today.

I'm beginning to understand his pain, as a young champion making bank, why take a fight he will most likely lose?
Its easy to dog on what appears to be cowardice but there are so many more factors than simply two men fighting.

A lot of it came from the Maywaether loss, Mexicans really fell for the hype and got deceived

Just because "thats the way the sport is today", doesnt mean you cant point out how lame it is.

Everybody lost to Mayweather. Canelo is doing just fine besides that fight.

A couple of Mexican great boxers hate on Canelo because he is fighting in a time when social media sells fights with lucrative paydays.
Many people love Canelo in Mexico.

Go back to threads about Canelo from 2010/2011. A lot of shit talking back then, too.

Somehow it caught on early in his career because HBO was (GASP) promoting him. Hasn't really let up since.

I've never been to Mexico but it seems most people got on either Canelo or GGG's side and then felt the need to hate on the other one. This happens with a lot of big fights.

I'm in the minority here, but I believe they will fight in 2016. The guy has pride and will make DLH put the fight together.

Calling the guy a coward is a step too far.
ur the MW champ and won't fight the one guy everyone wants you to fight and wants to fight you even at a 25-75 split ---------------------- COWARD

You're a dude (maybe), with an anonymous name on the internet calling a prizerfighter - a person who fights other people for a living - a coward. I'm pretty sure by those standards, you've racked up more points in the "coward" column than every fighter you've ever called a coward combined.

Irrelevant though. They're in the middle of negotiations right now, and something tells me you don't know a damn thing about what's going on inside of them. You just like calling fighters cowards because you don't have much else to say on the subject of combat sports.
