Why should I respect Ariel helwani?

You shouldn't, TS. Where was this crybaby when Josh Gross and Sherdog got blacklisted for the same damn thing?

Yeah, he explained it after they fired him.
Chael brought it up, and he laughed like it was a joke and changed topics. It's a clear violation of journalism ethics to be acting like an unbiased journalist on one hand, while working for and getting paid by the company you are supposed to be covering on the other hand.

Imagine Dateline NBC doing a documentary on cellphones and cancer, and then finding out the lead journalist on the documentary also works part-time as a member of the media team for Verizon. Would you really be able to trust the report?

Whoah whoah whoah cellphone cancer and MMA journalism in the same sentence?

Great. He interviews celebrity for a living. Such hard hitting journalism.

He interviews the fighters and spends a lot of time putting the show together. It's not mixing cement by hand, but he does it well. If it doesn't meet your standards of respect, that's fine, but he provides that platform to fighters for fans. I don't what you are bothered by.

What are then?

A lot of information goes through him to the public. This is MMA journalism, not NSA shit. It's entertainment news. Lower your standards.

Cause he is passionate about his profession, the sport and the UFC and dedicates his life to it. You don't have to respect him but people like him deserve it. Whether you can recognize is your own problem. No one will lose sleep over it.

Because MMA populists love the rebels no matter what. He is a nice guy but he overstepped his boundaries, period.

Buncha sheep. I used to rail against the UFC brass pretty hard, but lately, I can't fault them for some of the decisions they make, and just sit back and watch all the sheep bleeting. According to them, that makes me a paid shill, I guess.

i'm no hater of helwani, i enjoy his show and his hand grenade questions at pressers, but the guy knows nothing about MMA.

Its not even the same thing. Its worse. Loretta got banned for blowing the lid on the UFC refusing to credential certain managers they don't want to work with. That is actual journalism, and is a world different than tabloid shit like leaking fight rumors.

Weird how other sports have

Yep. Where was the nose for Loretta Hunt?

I know. Somebody in another thread actually compared him to Howard Cossell. Blew my mind, that someone could disrespect Howard like that.

He didn't overstep shit, he has the right to report whatever the fuck he wants regarding the fighters as long as it's true, regardless if it hurts Zuffa's promotional finances. It's a not a matter of being an Ariel fan or supporting the guy, regardless of whether or not you appreciate him ruining the return of your WWE legend (maybe not you specifically), he's got the right to do his job just like Ken Berger, Adam Schefter, Adrian Woj etc. etc.

I get some of you only follow MMA and not other sports, and that's fine, but in 2016 the MMA world is in big enough spotlight that stymieing a guy like Helwani from doing his job just isn't going to fly when journalists from every other profession don't have to go through this shit with the company they are covering.

Who tried to censor him?

Removing a reporter's press pass and banning him from doing his job at events = censoring journalism.

He can buy a ticket, but he can't access press areas he needs to access in order to do his job. They're trying to blacklist a reporter because he is too good at his job.

The whole "haters gonna hate" trend is stupid. I see grown men wearing silly t-shirts like " lifters gonna lift, haters gonna hate"

And people thought the fighters were paid peanuts..I'm still waiting for my check from Dana. ;)
