Why should I respect Ariel helwani?

I personaly cant really say i like journalists primarly because we all know how corrupted journalism is these days.
Imo Ariel shouldnt have accepted his job with Fox if it went against his principles and i also believe that he hasnt played his cards right in some occasions.
However , i absolutly respect his policy of reporting actual facts and his belief that his reputation is built on that , and i allways respect people that stick up for they´re principles and specially those who have the balls to go against the powers that be , even if its at great cost for themselfes... and i believe he has that in him.
Im also convinced that he is inteligent, a good guy and that he trully loves MMA ... so of course i respect Ariel Helwani

For the record, I'm a "journalist" I just copy and paste the material I see on the net and publish it myself. It's just something I do for extra cash. That's really what news site on the internet have devolved to these days. Pretty disgusting and got me jaded for a bit.

So I do respect the people who are actually the real source of news like Hellwangi.

But I don't respect Hellwangi per se because he's an absolute douche.

How can you say he is an absolute douche ? Do you know him personaly ? Why do you have that opinion of him ?

Ariel is a diligent, passionate and consistent reporter who provides an important platform that benefits both the fighters and the fans.

He has a 3+ hour program weekly that indulges many aspects of the sport; it is an unparalleled service in the industry.

He is also human and makes mistakes. I know I am in the minority here, and I am glad the ban was lifted, but I do think he fucked up with the Brock news.

But his body of work over the years is impressive and should be respected. And if you like the sport, you should listen to his show, it's excellent.

Because he managed to convince people he is an independent journalist when he was taking Zuffa checks for years without disclosing it, and his hardest hitting reports are leaking a fight a few weeks early, or that two fighters are dating.

How is he a douche?

I really can't think of anyone who does a better job than him.

The guy does his job well and reports what he needs to report , no one gets on at Sport Centre reporters for breaking news etc.

MMA is behind the times on this.

1. He explained the Zuffa check situation and it is not as you suggest (how can you even go there? He's been a gadfly in Zuffa's eyes for years)
2. He does a lot more than report, he is the sport's most important interviewer.
3. Those are not his hardest hitting reports.

Today is about Kimbo not a fake journalist.
Show some respect.

Cant disagree with this...

3 tweets about kimbo, surrounded by a dozen tweets about his blood press card..

A healthy dose of perspective as well, Ariel crying publicly over a press pass, people are dying n shit, cry about that.

Normally, dont mind him,he is irritating as hell to some people, and thats his job.As a fan I dont agree with spoiling the UFC's big announcement. Thats where i just dont like it. They put all this time and money and effort to really give the fans something they truly want, and here comes some guy who ruins the unveiling by posting it on some stupid website before they can. I have to say i dont like it,call it the nature of journalism or whatever, but that sucked.

Yeah, he explained it after they fired him.
Chael brought it up, and he laughed like it was a joke and changed topics. It's a clear violation of journalism ethics to be acting like an unbiased journalist on one hand, while working for and getting paid by the company you are supposed to be covering on the other hand.

Imagine Dateline NBC doing a documentary on cellphones and cancer, and then finding out the lead journalist on the documentary also works part-time as a member of the media team for Verizon. Would you really be able to trust the report?

Great. He interviews celebrity for a living. Such hard hitting journalism.

3. Those are not his hardest hitting reports.

What are then?

Can you imagine running a business and a part of that business relies on anticipation, suspense, build-up and release, and you got someone in the mix who thinks it's their job to figure it out and tell the public first. How are you going to view that person? You're going to view them as a saboteur.

I like Ariel and most of what he does is a major benefit, but don't be surprised if that company is going to pissed you jumped their promo.

Because MMA populists love the rebels no matter what. He is a nice guy but he overstepped his boundaries, period.
