For the record: that kickboxer is not me, it is a good friend i spoke today. He knows how Saki fights and thinks the following happened:

1 Saki was looking down while throwing the lowkick. According to him that means he was planning to follow up with a spinning backkick. He says Saki would never look down when just throwing a lowkick.

2 His hand would have sort of defended if he was wearing kickboxing gloves, seems his muscle memory took over since MMA gloves are useless from that position.

3 He would never ever throw that combination against a good striker he would fear (any k-1 opponent for example)

4 So he really underestimated his opponent and payed the price.

5 Saki should be ashamed he did and was really unprofessional.

Pretty good analysis imo. Just thought i'd share it with you. Kbye.

He got KTFO by a mediocre MMA striker, and made k1 look like a fucking joke.

K-1 fucking sucks. Get the fuck over it already

I am over it. Already said current mma top strikers are way better than the golden era of k1.

I understand you missed that thread, but just saying. This is not a justification thread, just an explanation how it went according to a (really really good) striker.

I don't get why people are shocked by him getting KOd. He's very hittable and Tree's got heavy hands.

He lost because he came out with the Turkish flag. If he had been draped in the Dutch flag, it would have transferred Dutch genetics to him and then there's no way he would have lost.

Saki is in the UFC for the paycheck.

His last Kickboxing match was more than 3 years ago.

k-1 has never emphasized defense. its all about trying to out land ur opponent. when u only have 3 x 3 minute rounds with those gloves on you have to be as busy as you can cuz u'll lose if you take a defensive approach most of the time. thats why the fights are pretty much both guys just trying to land combos on one another and if you get a knockout, you get a knockout

now if they fought for more then 9 minutes you would see more focus on defensive striking

That much is true. Also he stopped riding his bike and eat horse.

lol, someone on here finally provides good insight into a part of MMA and the blissfully ignorant complain...

Agree 100%. Also K1 was always dominated by fighters trained in Holland, and in the 90's all kickboxing training here was focused on attacking. Defending was for pussy's in some sort of way, we were more trained in just taking the shots.

Yeah that was dumb, i know, but that was the mentality, and still kinda is.

But yeah sharp observation.

it fit the k-1 scoring system. if u stood their on the defensive waiting to land the perfect counter or something you could fall behind in the fight and lose. with those big gloves you aren't guaranteed to knock any1 out even if you land the perfect counter. thats why guys pretty much just to try to out-work their opponent on offense. 3 x 3 is such a short fight you really have to lay it all out there in those 9 minutes.

it would be like if ufc fights were only 2 x 3 minute rounds or something. you would see more guys come out going for finishes and going on the attack instead of maybe taking more time to feel out their opponent and figure out range etc.

attacking was the way to win fights in K-1

Sometimes you get caught. Anyone can be knocked out. You got miles on you, you can definitely get knocked out.

I know Roundtree and his bro Donovan Freelow, and spent a lot of time at Syndicate for years. Roundtree is no joke in striking. He's been knocking out people in sparring for years, including Anderson Silva when he was brought in pre-Weidman. The dude is d-level on the ground, but in stand-up he can take on anybody.

Then again, Rico Verhoeven has been champ for 9 fights if im correct, and he has a pretty defensive way of fighting, wins a lot of fights on points by countering or on cardio in later rounds.

That said he fights 5 rounds when defending his belt so you are still right.

Oh i agree, but on the level Saki can be (or at least used to be), every exchange should be trained enough to be instinct. This was a blatant error on his behalf.
