It's always after the fight when UFC (and recently Bellator) fighters get caught for PEDs.

Is there any reason other than money that can explain why it happens like this? Why aren't the fighters caught prior to competition? Seems this would be in the best interest of fighter safety.

I thought we'd see this change by now. What gives, Sherbros?

I think you answered the question yourself by stating money is the main influence. You gotta think the UFC puts down a decent chunk of money to rent out an event for a PPV or UFN. They can't really put a halt to the event because one of their athletes tests hot. The show must go on. It probably wouldn't be a big deal if an undercard fighter pissed hot and wasn't allowed to fight before the event, but if it's a main event fighter you gotta figure there's added pressure to have them fight then release results.

It takes time to get the results back. If a fighter is cycling correctly they can avoid getting popped pre fight. But once you cut that water weight its very hard to mask peds. Hence the IV ban.

Fighters have been caught prior to competition though. Robert Drysdale is just one example I can think of right now.

Money.

They act like they don't want PEDs but honestly the sport would be more entertaining if they just were open about PEDs and allowed anything and everything.

Business.
The Vitor fiasco showed it the best.

There has been guys getting caught out of competition now. Before it was only after because they were only getting tested on fight night

what about using IV solutions in glass bottles instead of plastic IV bags to avoid being caught for IV use?

Is that how they would get caught using an IV? i dont know much about the testing for IV use.

I thought the IV tubes were the culprit as well, or do those not show up in the test?

Because Bellator doesnt do random testing. They do fight night testing.

And even though the ufc is doing random testing and catching some people out of competetion pre fight (Mirko ) the reality is the random testing is only now comming into full swing. And even then fight night testing is the only guaranteed test.

Lol mirko tested negative. But threw himself under the bus.

I heard a reason why that wouldnt work, cant remember what may of been something about biological passports or something. But even if you did get your iv in glass etc,you then have to trust it wasnt stored in anything plastic during its making etc

Cant the fighters claim they just drank a shit load of bottled water? Im ignorant to the inner workings of this testing for IV use is why i ask such a stupid question. Lol

I just looked up oral iv and found this.

What is ORAL IV?
ORAL IV is an Oral Rehydration solution that provides the critical electrolytes your body needs and nothing else; ORAL IV does not contain any sugars or stimulants. It can be consumed directly of added to16ounces of water or other liquids.
Why is ORAL IV better than other Oral Hydration solutions?
The minerals in ORAL IV are not compounded; they do not have to be digested or broken down and are absorbed directly upon contact with all mucous membranes. The actual particle size of the mineral ions is much smaller than other products, and they have a more powerful electrical charge...this allows them to pass freely through cellular membranes without requiring cellular energy.
Is ORAL IV all I need?
No… ORAL IV does not replenish any more water that the15mL that is in the bottle; you must also drink fluids (we recommend just water) along with ORAL IV.What ORAL IV does dois immediately provide the electrolytes that your body needs, making your body more efficient at using the water you do take in.

In short this wont be enough. Nor will it be anywhere close to and actually IV.

I just read about SHAMrock and Kimbo. They were the typical...caught after the fight.
