You guys need to change with the times and use bittorent there are plenty of free public trackers you can use, found on beehive and the beehive forums. The members will share the files to each other and it's 100% legal. Start saving server bandwith=saving money. BTW im downloading the Trigg interview with savage at an average of 25kbs that is so slow man...Im sure everyone here will do a 1.0 ratio you can even have ratio bans like other trackers where if you dont keep a good ratio wont be able to download unless you donate money or get your ratio up to par...Must have shows like the beatdown can stay on the server...this will allow you guys much needed flex for the forum and .com site....If you need any help just ask and most here are familiar with torrenting and for those who are not you can have a help section with a quick tutorial.

Sounds like a good idea for the more tech savvy crowd. Not only would it give that option to users who want a possibly quicker download, but also it would save Sherdog money. However, they would still need to keep a direct mp3 download for those of us who subscribe to the podcasts via Itunes, etc.

Sure perhaps just make it an option for now and see how it goes. I'll be happy to build the torrents and just have a hyperlink option for torrent also. My upload speed is capped at 40kbs(crappy comcast cable) so we need people with decent bandwith as well. Keep in mind if they are posted on the public sites it's great advertising for sherdog. The idea came to me with the MMA weekly interview with Dana many really appreciated it and i just checked the torrents status and people have been really good about seeding it. This is a no-brainer and a 'win win' for sherdog...

I could be mistaken, but it sounds like you're suggesting bittorrent as a substitute for the .com hosting the material for download? Honestly, I don't think that's having the biggest effect on the server, it really seems to be the forums. Also, I think there's something in there about not actually hosting the file and rather having it being supported by a p2p network that the site might not like, just feels more unstable. I think Sherdog would rather have it as a guaranteed download. Also the files usually aren't that big that download time should present much of a problem. And I personally haven't seen any other websites (MMA or otherwise) using this method.

Anyway, that's just my opinion. And my opinion has no say in this whatsoever because I have nothing to do with the decision made at .com such as this. Interesting idea though.

Well, maybe no other MMA magazines or forums use it, but a lot of other professional organizations are using it now to save money.

1. Blizzard Entertainment uses it to distribute WoW patches at practically no cost. This has saved them boatloads of money. Other game companies offer it as a faster alternative, but Blizzard has it as the forced, built-in, option.

2. Valve Software (anyone here play Half-Life 1 or 2?) uses BitTorrent. The guy who invented BT used to work for them.

3. The next wave of podcasting software will incorporate BitTorrent technology to make broadcasting cheaper.

4. The Linux community now relies heavily on BitTorrent for release distribution.

5. The Anime community (which probably has a lot of tech savvy people, however) is now making heavy use of BT for distribution.

6. BitTorrent --the official company that built the technology -- launched the BitTorrent Entertainment Network just the other day to sell legal BT content and compete on the digital marketplace.

7. BT is being used to distribute legal music from bands that don't have a record label, but do have a local fanbase.

8. And of course, BitTorrent is a great way to find that obscure dirty midget donkey porn that was out of stock at your local Hustler Store.

^^^Thanks.

Either way, Sherdog is a MMA news site that occasionally distributes video and audio clips. The things you're mentioning are more like free media markets where there is constand distribution and download. I think the increase in efficiency for a site like Sherdog would be minimal.

And the porn community has been using it for years!

The bandwidth savings alone could save hundreds of $ a year.

Sorry ive been busy lately and almost forgot about this thread.

I have a few errands to run and when done im going to create a few torrents for UFC 68 Sherdog interviews and post the links here. Moderators can do whatever they want with the links really this should be a nice compliment under the save as option on the news page.....Im dwnldng the coutore interview and it's taking quite a while for such a small file, this will help speed things up and i promise not to edit any of the files...

The Randy Couture Post 68 interview:

The site also recieves free advertising on 3 torrent sites everytime i upload a sherdog vid...

The distribution route.

Demonoid+torrentspy+mininova + anyone can scrape my uploads to other sites. Therefore it is safe to assume sherdog membership/people browsing the forums will increase so your going to need all the BW you can scrounge......Bandwith=you can never have enough every kb counts.

I agree 100% - torrents would be great on here.

It would also expose Sherdog and MMA to many new fans.
