Is there an injury that we don't know about? What are they going to do with Gustaffson? THey certainly can't make him fight his best friend Phil Davis for a number 1 contender's fight. It seems very simple to me. Glover fights Phil Davis. And Gustaffson fights Jon Jones. Phil Davis, if he wins, can fight his friend for the belt, or Jon Jones, or Glover, or the could have a trilogy fight.
What are they going to do with Gustaffson? Machida went down to MW. Shogun just came off a brutal loss. Rashard is down at 185. Chael is down at 185. That leaves only lil Nog. I guess you could put AG and lil Nog on the same card as Jones and Glover. It really makes no sense to me.
Why not make a super fight when both guys are healthy and willing?

while it was a close fight immediate rematches are dumb, especially for the belt.
about only real exception I could consider legit is draws or lame NC.

Gus vs Jones is definitely an exception

Rashad and Chael are fighting at 205

Alex had his chance, as impressive as he was, and as good as a fight it was, he still lost. Let somebody else have their shot and let him win a few before another shot.

As a Jones fan, I initially was surprised and disappointed by no immediate rematch. But they will definitely fight at least one more time in their career , possibly several more times, no matter if one or both of them lose their next fight. I guess the wait builds anticipation and gives Glover a chance (he's not getting any younger).

It will also give Jones a little time to work on his boxing, which was obviously a major shortcoming.

Because Dana, Lorenzo, Silva, etc. decided so. It is what it is.

LHW is pretty thin right now. Gus will get a rematch pretty quick... Probably one or two more fights then a rematch unless someone else comes along

Jones doesn't want to fight Gus again. He wants to fight the guy who he himself said doesn't deserve the shot instead. Jones wanted a challenge because he was bored of dominating now after he got sent to the hospital he probably wants to go back to the way things were before.

Don't wanna see an immediate rematch no way

Alex can get another shot soon enough

So I guess any fight that is actually competitive and not a one-sided mauling warrants an immediate rematch these days.

Because Gus lost, wasn't a defending champion and goes to the back of the line just like Gil, who at least had a split.

Really that hard to fathom?

As much as I like the rematch, come to think of it I would like Alex to fight a few more times first and build more experience before facing Jones again. If Alex loses the immediate rematch it'd be hard for him to build a strong case for another shot as long as Jones is the champion. Let Alex rack up a few more wins first and dethrone Jones later, it'll happen eventually, just a matter of time. War Gus!

Unless the 2 26 year old fighters are gonna retire soon, that fight will be there in 2014, in 2015, in 2016... sensing a pattern? Why not have Jones return to dominance and have people chomping at the bit for the rematch?

I can see the logic (although I would still prefer a rematch sooner to shut Sherdog up).

Maybe that's the point, Let Jones improve on what he needs to so he wont lose to Gus(IMO again) in the rematch which im guessing will be right after Jones spanks Glover. Also IMO I think if the UFC wouldn't of used rematches only to make more money and only gave immediate rematches to fights that actually warranted it unlike Weidman vs silva which obviously didn't deserve a rematch because he got owned, every one would be cool with Jones vs Gus 2. This is what happens when you start running a business only to make money instead of making money and pleasing fans.

Gus will likely fight on the Sweden card in February. Assuming Jones beats Glover and Gus wins, that will set up the rematch. Maybe Jones even gets in the cage with Gus so the Swedish fans can boo him.

Rashad and Sonnen are both at 205 and are fighting each other in November. So while the winner could be ready for a mid-February fight, I think Little Nog is more likely.

Jones/Gus was a great fight, but their rematch would not be a "super fight."
