thinking about tactics that no one has tried against JBJ, I can't recall anyone leg kicking properly Jones in any of his fights? Could that be a possible weakness?

What if he grabs the leg and takes down his opponent and starts landing hellbows?

Throw kicks at a great wrestler, sounds like a fantastic idea.

Because of his reach you have to be closer to actually hit his leg and then there is a chance that he might tag you or take you down.

    possible weakness... duh.

But the threat of the takedown and Jones' long reach which he uses well. Oh and not really any great kickers at LHW (who can make it to Jones)

Good luck getting the range to kick Jones while he sits there and eats it

Even in full guard he can still unleash hellbows.

Shogun went for I think one low kick, in the second round of their fight, and Jones immediately caught it off and took him down to Elbowtown.

Jones has a very smothering fight style. Even when it's not directly smothering, he makes you feel spacial inadequacy because he's hitting you and you can't him while he's really good at holding your face even if you want to move forward. So while you're fighting in this bubble of one-way vulnerability, you also know at anytime he might use some of the best takedowns ever to get on top of you and land some of the best ground and pound ever. And if you stick your head in his stomach and try to take him down, he might lift you by your neck until you're seconds from a coma and then drop you like a corpse.

He's excellent at disrupting any semblance of a gameplan on your part, and because he's doing so much shit constantly, your mind adapts to one thing he's doing just in time for him to do the next thing , and then the adjustment process begins again and again.

It's both very strange and profound. I feel like if there wasn't the mass belief that Jones usually brings such a size and strength advantage to the cage for his fights, then Jones' creativity and strategies for the mental game would be more greatly appreciated.

He is deadly in full guard.

Half is the safest place to be because it limits how much he can posture up. This is how Shogun lasted as long as he did, because he kept most of the grappling in half guard. He's always dangerous, but it's more possible to limit his range and dexterity from half.

If Jon gets side control, he's going to drop meatcleavers directly on your dome, or he's looking for that salaverry position.

In full guard he's standing up halfway and dropping death on your ass like the Vera fight.

    From mount you're just fucked.

Brilliant! Why has no one thought of this until now? You'd think with all the fighters who've gone in there with Jones and all the coaches and training partners helping them work out game plans, someone might've at some point said, "Hey, why don't we give leg kicks a shot?" But no one ever has. You are the first person to ever think of this. Congratulations on winning the Internet.

DC answered this the other day. It puts you at big risk of ending up on your back + the counter due to Jon's reach.

If you end up on your back versus Bones you're in trouble. He can land elbows from guard. That's brutal.

That's what everyone said when Shogun fought him....worst lopsided beating Shogun ever took in his life...even worse than the classic Hendo/Shogun matches combined.

would be interesting to see a heavy kicker aim for his calves repeatedly.

The problem is that only someone like DC or Rampage who is also very strong in the wrestling dpt. could do it.
DC should have tried more as should have Rampage.
Jonny clearly didn't like the only powerful low kick QJ landed on him

the high level wrestling would be necessary if kicking at the thigh, but kicking at the calf would be much more difficult to catch and turn into a takedown. someone with mid-level wrestling and solid muay thai might be able to do some damage. it would also be hilarious if someone busted Jon's knee with an oblique kick. that shit would be poetic.
