Anyone else find it strange that Asian fighters have been oddly absent from greatest fighters of all time discussion? We have white GOATS (GSP/Fedor), black GOATS (Jones/Anderson), and brown GOATS (Aldo/Penn). But no Asian that can stake claim to any greatest of all time title either within a weight class or p4p or anything. Weve got legendary fighters like Saku and very good fighters like Korean Zombie and Okami but none at the pinnacle. I dont think theres ever even been an Asian world(ufc) champion has there? Especially strange since Asians invented martial arts.

Kanako Murata will go down as the greatest wmma fighter of all time

Gomi could lay claim to LW GOAT, alongside BJ "brown pride" Penn.

Saku is a p4p great.

Megumi Fuji.

Nah, Gomi was good but not the LW GOAT. Penn also choked him out. Saku is a legend like I said and perhaps yes a p4p GREAT but not a p4p GOAT. You might be right about Fujii though.

Sakuraba is one of the GOATs imo. he was unquestionably the best fighter in the world in 2000 (p4p), and when someone gets to that level they are already one of the GOAT.

Mach Sakurai was also P4p #1 for a time .
Gomi was #1 lightweight for a long long time.

in short if Aldo and Penn are in the discussion then the guys i mentioned are too.

I dont know, Saku is really iffy. I guess he mightve been p4p best at that time but its pretty questionable in my mind. I have no way to verify Sakurai being p4p#1.

penn is azn.

also, the reason why there are no azn goats is because there's only one goat

Well one clear reason is that the legends often fight way past their prime. For example, in his prime, it was clear that Saku was one of the GOATS, today he is rarely even considered. Gomi was in the LW discussion, but he too has fought soooo far past his prime, people don't think to consider him.

the gracie family was undefeated in no holds barred competition for 50 years and Sakuraba beat 4 of them. Until he lost to Wanderlei he was the king of MMA

I won't discuss Sakuraba

But Sakurai and Gomi can't be in GOAT discussion.
If Sakurai was considered #1 for be undefeated in shooto, Shooto's competition doesnt make you a GOAT to me. He wasnt that unvincible when stared fighting in Pride/UFC.
Sakurai had lost 7 times when he turned 30.

I dont give that much credit to the "prime" argument. When was exactly Gomi's prime. Between he got choked by BJ Penn and Aurelio? 2 years lasted his prime? If that's the case, he is not in GOAT discussion neither.

Sakurai and Gomi were great fighters but not GOAT material.

INB4 it's because Sherdog and MMA fans are racist.

Thailand & Japan are busy dominating Muay Thai & Kickboxing.

Last I checked Megumi Fujii is still the WMMA GOAT

They're already GOAT in looks

Why embarrass the West any more?

Big Nog is some asian isnt he?

Gomi is arguably LW Goat, that one is sort of a toss up IMO, there's like 3-4 fighters that have a good case for it.

I think, to a large degree Asian people are hard working love their families and countires and have real jobs like building cars, houses, technologins and argiculture etc.

Fist fighting in a steel cage is a white (no pun intended) man's dream.

Some prospects for legend/household name/champion status are koreating super boy or whatever shit name he has and kgucci.

Without repeating what's already been said, Asians don't cut much weight.

Looking at LW resumes alone, BJ moved up to WW.... BJ is not the LW GOAT. Gomi and Aoki both have more impressive resume's (at LW alone)

I remember Ricardo Almeida used to say Japanese fighters are not doing well in grappling like they excel in MMA because grappling requires more learning skill. Rickson Gracie on the other hand said Japanese people are great learners but they are not creative enough to apply what they learn to their game.

They will probably never realize that if divisions are divided based on strength, more Asians will prevail in Grappling and MMA. Strength/Width is the obvious key. I know both worlds and I think I'm closer to the truth.

Rickson Gracie is not a big guy. He is not particularly strong among Brazilians or Americans. But he was able to out-powered Takada who reigned within 0.5 percent of the physical elites of Japanese men.
