I suspect part of the issue is that often these kinds of confrontations are hard to gauge whats going on, the victim might be very threatened but to bystanders it may appear like a heated argument and I think that's probably where class may come into it, the biggest divide by class is probably that middle and upper class are much more likely to be conservative in their interactions, getting into a shouting match with some mad bloke on a train isn't so much a sense of threat but of embarrassment.

As far as the original video goes I think what he highlights is actually that the media love to overplay these kinds of situations to create moral outrage, as noted the guy sent down for 6 years was actually on trial for various other crimes and the pensioner in London was not actually charged with murder.

A separate issue though is that the media are obsessed with paedophiles, more specifically with the idea of them snatching children on the street at random rather than abuse in families or institutions thats actually vastly more common. That has definitely created a climate of fear when it comes to people being potentially labelled as one for some harmless action such as helping a lost child.

I don't know if it's a morality issue but I think "white collars dudes" just aren't as comfortable being hands-on in these types of situations. If you work with your hands for a living or have a physical job, you probably have more confidence in your ability to handle yourself.

There is definitely a bystander effect in play though, I think if one suit guy tried to intervene more would follow, but in the city people are predisposed to mind their own business.
