Today's the fourth of July and the day before Chris Weidman's second title defense. Chris, being the true-blue American that he is, isn't going to miss out on all the food-wise festivities that comes with this holiday. Apple pie, ribs, hanksboigers, you name it, Chris is going to indulge in it, especially after he just cut weight and feels the need to feed. After two straight months of eating nothing but lean foods, this's going to completely screw up Weidman's body. It's common knowledge among weight-cutters that eating bad food right after you cut weight screws up your body; it results in the fighter being lethargic and sick right before the fight, affecting everything from their cardio to their power to their durability to their heart. It essentially reduces the body to the state it would be in if you'd taken the fight on a week's notice with no training. Try this out for yourself; cut out all (non-natural) sugars from your diet for a month, then binge out on them for a day. You'll probably feel like you've come down with a fever later that day. Chris' patriotism is also gonna lead to him being incapable of overcoming this need to feast. This isn't just a theory, either; Chris has lost every wrestling match he's ever had that took place after the fourth of July for this same reason. Coincidence? I think not.
Lyoto Machida, however, being the staunch Brazilian that he is, isn't going to feel anywhere close to the same patriotic desire to feast, so he's going to stick to the same lean diet he's been on for the past months and will be as fit as he's ever been. Machida's victory is assured because of this; it's a healthy Machida vs. a dietarily-sick Chris Weidman. The best result Chris can hope for is a split decision loss cuz' one of the judges questionably gave him the fight.
