I think jones is the best fighter in the world right now but the thing is he isn't as big of a star as he should be for example if someone has never seen mma wouldn't know who he was. An athlete of his caliber should be bringing in more fans and having better pay per view numbers.

sure he's beaten everybody that has been in the cage with him ( not including dq) but he isn't being marketed as he should be the thing about. gsp even though I didn't like his style but whenever he had an upcoming fight the promo commercials would have you wanting to see what would happen in the fight which is why he had good ppv numbers.

Fighters like brock, anderson, gsp and rousey I feel are bigger household names then jones even though hes a dominant American champion in most historic division in mma. Even with the fans who watch mma most still consider guys like anderson, fedor, and gsp as the goat and jones is on his way there when in reality he has a stronger case then any of those 3.

In reality jones should be the person Dana should be promoting the hardest instead of Ronda as much, sure he's on the cover of the new ufc game but other then a couple bud light short appearances what other ways has he's been shown to the public?
Hes the perfect fighter skill wise great wrestling, striking, and submissions. Sure he's hated by alot of fans but so is lebron james but lebron is constantly bringing in new viewers for basketball yet jones isn't the ufc's biggest draw.

because being a star is not just about fighting.

People will come around to him eventually. Being sponsored by Gatorade and Nike won't hurt, and he is featured on the cover of EA Sports UFC after all. If you think about it he raised the profile and made a star out of someone who had a close fight with him.

Hes probably the biggest "mainstream" star the UFC has ever had, With the exception of maybe Ronda, where Id guess its close.

Biggest endorsements and most mainstream media coverage

Cruz it takes a while n I know people will bring up GSP but white fighters draw more quickly

Stars must be genuine and unique. Most of the planet isn't into fisticuffs but you can be a movie star like Ronda if your personality matches your actions. :icon_chee

Cause Dana is marketing Rousey more.

You do have the power to not swallow what Dana is shovelling about Rousey. It blows me away the popularity she has, I have no idea why.

I think Jones has a real personality problem, people have become to not like him, even though he is a great fighter. The guy comes off like a douchebag in most cases, and originally (when he first started) he seemed like a pretty good guy. Some don't handle fame well at all.

hahahahah..... yeah, ok, sure. I can see him being mentioned in the same sentence as GSP, Fedor and Anderson, but to say he has a stronger case? GTFO

His personality sucks. Its not just that he has a lot of haters, its that he doesnt really have that many people that love him. Sonnen and Rhonda have a ton of haters, but both of them have more marketable personalities that more people love than Jones.

Uhhh... GSP? I see GSP on non-UFC related billboards and commercials often, and he is generally considered to be the UFC's biggest mainstream star other than MAYBE Chuck (who is still doing commercials, too). Also, as far as mainstream star, Brock... without a doubt. Yes, mostly attributable to WWE, but still.

THIS exactly

Because the UFC markets the brand and Dana White.

Everyone seem the like 3rd comment better but I think you won this thread.

The UFC does not want any single fighter to have a great deal of bargining power thus they promote the brand.

You serious? Just look at all the Jones nuthuggers in these forums and in general. The guy seems to be very popular. With the usual band of haters as any fighter has.

he'll get there, but also he has a confusing personality. good and bad, which is like how things are in reality, but people tend to get more popular when they choose one. the pro wrestling style heel or babyface type of deal.

he comes off as arrogant, and false. that puts peoples backs up straight away.

Because his personality is horrible. Dude has arguably the best resume in the UFC, along with GSP.

His LHW record is impeccable, he is the champ of the "star" division, and he rarely has a boring fight.

"Go check on Lyoto, get some fans". His fucking coach said that.

His shitty attitude and Zuffa's terrible, archaic marketing.
