Why is there almost no wrestlers in the HW division?

If you look at the current list of HWs, Cain is literally the only HW with a serious wrestling background. Sometimes I genuinely wonder if that's why he's so successful. We kind of saw the same thing with Chuck Liddell during his reign -- he was the only guy with a serious wrestling background in his division and it made him unstoppable until Randy Couture, Rampage, Rashad etc. showed up.

    thoughts? opinions?

Should be "are there...". It's important to do your homework for school, TS.

well yeah, I know DC is listed, but he's not a HW anymore, and I'm sure thats also why he was so successful. lack of wrestling competition allowed him to easily dominate fighters who are primarily strikers.

DC isnt a HW anymore (and he wouldnt fight Cain anyways), and Barnett has no SERIOUS formal wrestling back ground.

They are probably being given the askren treatment, fighting in regionals or dropping down to LHW.

There is little money to be made with a wrestling first HW champ. Cain is lucky he is so good.

Watch his rights in Strikeforce, he was a better wrestler than most with wrestling backgrounds.

Jared Rosholt and Stipe Miocic are former D1 wrestlers with Rosholt being a huge standout. WSOF's Smealinho Rama, Derrick Mehmen, and Steve Mocco (Olympian) are from wrestling bases. Bellator's Bobby Lashley and Zach Rosol are from wrestling backgrounds. One FC's Tony Johnson is a former wrestler. There a handful of great amateur wrestlers that are about to come into MMA (Aliakbari and Tyrell Fortune) and on the amateur circuit. They are out there, it's just that there aren't a lot of heavyweights out there in general.

Jared Rosholt has a great wrestling background. Amazing that he couldn't even get past Alexiy Olynik

why are there no heavyweights in the heavyweight division!?

6 of the guys ranked on the ufc's official ranking page had one (or less!) fights in 2014... where is everyone?

He means that the correct way to say it would be "Why are there almost no wrestlers," not why is there.

Tito was a world champion striker and BJJ fighter. If he would have put more effort into learning to wrestle I think he could have taken Chuck.

This is a good observation though. Hardly any wrestling based fighters in the top 10. I do wonder why that is now that you mention it. I'm guessing guys that are athletic enough prefer to wrestle for the olympics? Unless the money gets better, I don't see the UFC coaxing too much talent to sign on. Maybe Coker will do a bit more to invest in building HW.

Back in the day the HW division had the best wrestlers in mma.

    Coleman
    Servern
    Randleman
    Couture
    Barnett

i think they are not succesful, is just too easy to get koed in HW if you cant takedown your oponnent quickly
