Why is the PPV more expensive in US?

I pay like £20-£30 a month for BT Sport and for that I get access to majority of the UFC cards throughout the year.

Occasionally BT make some of the events they deem “big” a PPV event and we have to pay extra - tonight’s fight and Khabib v Gaethje for example BT made PPV.

Tonight’s card is £20 ($27) on BT Sport Box Office. Yet it just flashed up just now that ESPN is asking Americans to shell out $89 (£65) why is there such a big discrepancy in what UK fans are charged compared to US?

Is ESPN/UFC events free to access the rest of the year for events that aren’t PPV? Is it because we pay a monthly subscription for BT Sport?

Genuinely curious

I guess it’s the price point the accountants deem most profitable.

Simple really.

America is richer than whatever 3rd world shithole you are from

It's like healthcare and defense, we subsidize the rest of the world...

because america is super hardcore capitalist. the ppv system has been outdated since the 90s.

I've always wondered why Mexico and European countries pay considerably less for UFC PPV than here in the US.

Not to mention that even before Covid, chains like BWW stopped carrying PPV.

Europe is not going to pay that much for a 3am PPV.

Canada also pays a lot for PPV

It honestly seems to me like the UFC is actively trying to prevent their fan base from growing. To watch this entire event, I would need: 1. An ESPN+ subscription, 2. A cable or satellite package with ESPN, and 3. Buy the PPV (which you can only do if you already have an ESPN+ subscription). Even aside from the cost, which some might find trivial while others find it prohibitive, they're requiring people to hop around on three separate platforms to watch the whole thing. It's one thing to expect hardcore fans to do that, but for new, potential fans, I think it's a bit ridiculous, especially with the cord-cutting trend.
