Sherdog loves bitching about fighters cutting weight and bigger fighters fighting smaller people.

However when it comes to DJ who's SMALLER even at Flyweight people criticize him for not going to Bantamweight. He already went to bantamweight and only lost to the then and current champion, Cruz, all while doing a full time job.

The MMA community literally makes up reasons to criticize or hate DJ. If the community doesn't nut hug a fighter like Mcgregor, they're never satisfied with anything.

There's been nothing but praise for DJ after last night.

Because no one can escape the "x needs to move up in weight to prove (lmao) themselves" once they have a couple title defenses.

To be honest I dont hear many posters criticize him as much as tey give him the "not my cup of tea" treatment.

I think one combat sports reporter said if UFC was an actual sport DJ would have at least have respect amongst fans.

I admit Ppv sales and popularity is another issue.

Only thing I can think of is people want to relate. With someone like Diaz you have a free spirited rebel. Mighty Mouse is uniquely small, and yet more athletic than the big 99% could ever dream of being. Mix that with a squeaky clean professional image, it's hard for so much demography to empathize.

Mix that with a cleaned out division, interesting fights need interesting matchups. Mighty Mouse is really best appreciated objectively. What he does is masterful.

Great fighter, but he needs a challenge, how many time can you keep beating the same guys. The next best guy is Joe B or mccall, who DJ has soundly beat.

People want this, which is dumb.

If somebody is dominating everyone they fight, I dont see the problem with fans wanting to see that fighter challenge himself by moving up. Also, he did well at BW before and even fought for the title. He appears to have improved leaps and bounds since then. People want to know how well he could do if he fought Cruz today.

Because he is an adult fighting children. Being the same size doesn't make it right.

+ nerds can be fucking relentless when they're bigger than somebody for once.

He's simply just better than everybody in that weight class. As fight fans we want the biggest fights so him moving up gives us the chance to see highly competitive matches.

Why is it dumb? Johnson earned a shot at him before. He is much better now than he was then. Just because Cruz is a big BW, that doesnt mean its dumb that he competes against smaller BWs, and Johnson has proven he can be a good BW.

Because GSP and Silva fans are worried about their idols tittle defends records.

I wonder the same about Jones.

Yes he COULD move up but so could 90% of the roster.

Mighty Mouse super-kick win pose FTW.

It is strange. DJ is up there with Jones as P4P #1. I can only assume people can't appreciate his skill just because he's small or they just don't like watching 125Ib fighters.

You should have stopped there and you have your answer

Because he's winning too much. This is standard Shertard logic at it's finest. As soon as a champion starts a big title reign and winning convincingly, Shertards believe this means they HAVE TO IMMEDIATELY fight a weight class above to prove themselves no matter how, big or small or average they are for their current weight class. Logic is completely thrown out the window at this point as well and they don't process the fact most Champs don't actually want to vacate their title (depending on Dana's mood apparently) but are also hungry for having the best/longest title reign ever by this point. But if these requirements to move up aren't met, then Shertards commence towards going full-Shertard with non-stop pouting, bitching, moaning and basic lack of understanding from a fighter standpoint.
