Why is it the onus on Jones to move up to HW

Great fighters challenge themselves.

Jones doesn't have to move up, but it would be really cool if he did and had success.

Silva fought a bunch of slow LHW white guys, Jones could dabble with a few fights against some derpy HW fighters, after he fights Gus and AJ.

JJ is still young and has time on his side. He can wait. Keep setting records at LHW and solidify a win streak/champion defenses to an extend where it probably won't be surpassed in a long long time, if ever.

IMO, he will move to HW in 3-4 years time. It also makes sense because right now, there really are some dangers in that division who will be less so in that time, IMO. HW, has no real new dangerous talent on the horizon, so waiting will be in JJ's favor.

Edit; and wtf does "onus" mean?
duty.
The definition function on google isn't that hard to use.

But on topic. Like others have said. It's equally dumb to say HWs have to move down to fight him. Besides Jones has said in the past he in interested in moving up.
Simple as that.

That's some shoddy logic. But still, this kind of stuff happens to every dominant champion

Wrong again.

Who is/are the current UFC GOAT(s) in his way?

GSP, Spyder, and some mention of Jose Aldo.

Why are GSP & Spyder "considered by some" to be GOAT material over Jon?

Easy Spyder 10 UFC title defenses.
GSP 9 UFC title defenses.
Aldo 7 UFC title defenses (and still active).

2. Jones needs to establish the UFC title defense record in history to seal the GOAT deal before so much as considering moving up to HW for keyboard jockeys fantasy matchups. THAT is how it works in YOUR sport of MMA.

Lol, oh you're back to talking MMA? Good.

You keep up with these well thought out rambling posts all the while ignoring the fact that it was JBJ himself who said going up would cement his legacy. His words, his idea!

Why can't other HWs move down like DC to fight him?

it seems to me, that it's because the heavyweight belt is more prestigious than the light-heavyweight belt. that's why i find it insane that some people are asking cain to move down to fight jones. that makes no sense to me. why relinquish the most prized belt for a lesser belt?

if the ufc throws TONS of money to cain, then i can see how that may persuade him.

as for other heavyweights, maybe it would make more sense for them, if they feel like they could never be champion at heavyweight.

The onus isn't on him to move anywhere, but until the LHW division gets some fresh bodies a vocal segment of the fanbase is going to continue to call on him to challenge himself.
It's Jones' call entirely if he wants to give those fans the satisfaction of seeing him move up.

If he wants to move up, he should wait about three years, imo; Let Cain watch his prime pass him by from a hospital bed; let JDS' brain cage get rattled by a few more unnecessary blows while his body comes to terms with the fact that Cain probably aged it by a decade.
Werdum will be 40. Mark Hunt, 43.
Overeem will be closing in on 40, and slowing down fast - his well-publicized jaw, a stationary target that doesn't require heavyweight power to crack.
Travis Browne and him are training partners (or, at least, former training partners?). How might that play out?
Jones would more than likely outpoint Roy Nelson without much difficulty. Too short and too slow.
Arlovski is a fragile HW on his twilight run (and also a training partner?).
Bigfoot's also getting old, and his first fight without TRT was not promising.

LHW is pretty shallow at the moment as well (at least, it is in relation to its champ) but it's more believable that LHW will look better in a few years than that HW will recover in the same time. Gus, Johnson and maybe a DC rematch will keep Jones busy while the division rights itself.
After another 3 years of wear-and-tear it might be in Jones' best interests to move up to the ailing division above and secure his legacy before he gets to the point where nagging injuries accrued over the years start to inhibit his ability to train.

Watch Cain move down.

Seriously, he wouldn't. But he probably could.

because Jones is a genetic freak and it would be nice to see him fight just 1 fighter bigger than him before his career is over.

They might.

The reason why the onus is on him is because he has cleared out his division. After Gus and MAYBE AJ, there is literally no one left to even think for a second they have a chance to beat Jones. Anyone who pays for his fights after that are just hoping to see some miraculous upset.

He'll move up because he's bored and because his PPV sales will plummet. Few people are going to buy a card headlined by Jones vs Davis, or Jones vs Rashad II.

There's no onus on Jon to move up he's the champ either the guys beneath him get better or Dana & Lorenzo crack open their check book and pay Jones 40,000$ a pound for his 205 he's leaving behind and negotiate a new HW fight contract laid heavy with pay incentives.
