Why is GSP ducking his own division?

fair enough. I always respect people that respond sensibly like you just did. I feel that woodley is a bad matchup for gsp. Gsp womt be able to time his takedowns against tyron. tyron is very difficult to take down and it's even harder to keep him down for long. Woodley has ko power and has brutal leg kicks that does damage over time if he actually decides to throw them. woodley has become very cerebral ever since he found a head coach. the woodley that lost to marquardt was a newbie in the striking department and against rory he dint have a head coach. Things have changed significantly under roofus. He has the wrestling to negate gsp. Gsp's lack of ko power would allow tyron to wait for the right moment in order to strike the killer blow. Power, speed and strength advantage all favour woodley. Gsp has the cardio advantage but tyron has learnt how to conserve and explode like romero. It's a very difficult matchup for gsp and I simply cant fathom a way for gsp to win.

Dude, Yoel would actually kill GSP.

Just wondering

He's already stated what he wants. Listen to the interview with Rogan.

He wants to do something special. Clearly he doesn't think fighting for the belt he held for ages is special at this point.

Scared of going broke fighting boring nobodies for pennies.

Absolutely. MMAth is ridiculous. Woodley is better now than when fought Rory, and I could make endless obscure arguments about Rory, GSP and anyone else you mention. GSP won't fight anyone he is scared of. Hendricks sent him into retirement, and since then he has only popped out for a gimme fight. After that he conveniently got colitis. People with high intelligence, intellect and life experience can see straight through GSP. He's shook and will only fight smaller guys or guys he knows he has a high chance of beating. He will NEVER fight Romero/Silva/Whittaker/Woodley or anyone else who would send him into a coma. Make any argument you want as to WHY, but he WONT because of fear. Period. End of story. He's a lot like Jon Jones but without the gutter-criminal tendencies, and he is smarter. They both lack real confidence and true integrity. They say and do things in order to try and get people to perceive them differently than they really are.

You are correct.

Imagine seeing a guy defend his title for the better half of a decade against absolute killers like Prime Fitch, Thiago Alves, Carlos Condit, Nick Diaz etc and think "yeah, that guys probably afraid of tyron woodley!"

Rory destroyed Tyron and did it in a way that makes me think GSP would demolish him even worse (jabs and cornering him)
The two fighters that fucked Woodley up the most, Rory and Marquart are ex training partners of Goerges and good friends of his.

He absolutely knows he’d maul the ever living fuck out of Woodley if he could get motivation for it.

170 no longer motivated George, you saw it before he left decision after decision he said in interviews later that he wanted them to bring the fight to him and he was bored more or less and lost the motivation to go out and wreck assholes.

Almost every fight he’s ever been in when he was trying to get a spot for a belt or for a belt was a finish

Almost every single one.

And he just finished one of the most notoriously hard to finish guys there is.

Well woodley is current champion and more than willing to fight GSP, but it doesnt go both ways. GSP fishing for fights against LW's.

IMO i think Woodley debos GSP, def a harder fight than bisping.
Bisping would assrape Woodley

He cherrypicked Bisping. He is most likely too lazy/rich/smart to jump back in to a fight like Woodley or any of the WW top 5

He’s attained legendary MMA status to this point and can cherry pick fights at his leisure.

With all the bullshit commercialism and prolonged title bouts, I’m glad he was willing to vacate 185 and let things move along. I say take the low-risk, high dollar fights and enjoy life.
Couldn't have said it better myself.
Mind you...if GSP actually gets a chance to fight for the 155 title and win....he may go after the 170 title as well.

GSP came back for a strategic few fights. Winning titles in other divisions, money fights, legacy fights.

He is not here to dominate WW for a few years and beat up on the newcomers.

GSP moves the needle, model employee for years, dominated his division, face of the UFC, GOAT.

He can do whatever he wants if Conor is allowed to pick and choose his fights.

Woodley is current champion who has been ducking guys like Colby and RDA while calling out LW gatekeepers like Nate Diaz

GSP is the king of ducking in MMA.

at least he doesnt run entire weightclasses away from tough fights. Wonderboy and Maia are good fights

Because he has no where to run to. He’d get destroyed at MW so he’s been looking for LW gatekeepers instead.

Wonder boy and Maia are easy fights for GSP

do not agree.... and i dont elaborate to double yellows

I don’t agree with you but that’s ok.

Wonder boy gets manhandled and Maia gets destroyed on the feet

you know... you are probably right.. gsp probably does beat those guys although its anything but a given...

but woodley is a different match up and I dont think GSP is as good as he was before.

That's a much better explanation of why you think GSP would lose. I'm not sure I agree (fights are notoriously hard to predict, which is so few people consistently win gambling on them), but you make a good argument.

My biggest reason for saying GSP would lose is that he's 37, he's much slower (very important for a timing based fighter) in both speed and reflexes than in his prime, and has four years of ring rust (athletes are notorious for losing their ability after even a couple of years absence, let alone four). The GSP that fought Bisping would have lost horribly to say the GSP that beat Hughes in their second fight.

My biggest reason for saying GSP could win is that styles make fights, and sometimes those style differentiators aren't obvious before the fight; Tyson-Douglas is an example, so is Anderson-Wiedman, examples of fights were beforehand the style advantages were predicted to go to the guy who eventually lost.

Basically, GSP should lose to most top ten guys just based on his age and four years of retirement alone. But you never know until they fight.
