    Because new fans only recognize ufc wins and he didn't do so well in the ufc. Also, lots of question marks around pride wins lately.

    I think most of us recognise him as someone who excelled during a certain period. However, this recognition is tempered by the fact that the sport has advanced somewhat beyond where it was at the time. His insistence on fighting well into decline also eroded his luster.
