Why is Conor vs Khabib not being promoted?

This video came out today, but not much else.

If you think back to the Chad Mendes fight there were live bands playing, before the Aldo fight there was that huge world tour, both Diaz fights and the Eddie fight had conferences.

What is going on, what's the reasoning behind so little promotion?

The fight sells itself but rest assured it will be promoted.

Why do you care? Conor is a big enough star and doesn't need any promotion. His name alone is the promotion.

Not enough time from when Conor got cleared from his charges to coordinate promotion and have both guys prepare. I'm sure each man has been preparing for each other, but the timing of Conor's legal issues probably threw a wrench in their promotional plans...plus the fight will likely sell a lot without it.

Still, it would benefit them to get these guys in some rooms together and talking to each other.

I wonder if they’re intentionally not putting a ton of stress on the fighters for promotion. A healthy Conor and Khabib is their biggest priority.

Doesn’t need a full promotion really.

A fan made trailer got put out a week before the UFCs and it had 5 million hits before the UFC even got theirs released. There's so much fight they don't even need to try lol

If they do have a lot of obligation closer to the fight they are really gambling on Khabib. I know he's made of steel, but that spotlight is a different animal and a lot of press could affect his weight cut.

It is a weird. I was talking to people who are not huge mma fans about throwing a party for the fight. Most of them didn’t even know conor had a fight

I completely disagree. This fight will sell better with more promotion whether Conor's name is attached to it or not.

They have been unusually quiet. Granted it's still two months away, but still. There doesn't seem to be much hype around it. The UFC seems to just be letting it be which isn't smart! It'll still obviously do well over a million, but it should be doing over 2 at least.

Cause WME sucks. Same with DC vs Stipe fight, it could easily sell 600k

I can't wait for the trashtalk.

I think Khabib will do a lot better than expected and burn McGregor with his hilarious broken english.

Mendes fight was a one-off. Aldo, Diaz, Alvarez fights didn't get that.

The World Tour happened in the spring of 2015 before McGregor had headlined a PPV and made any real money. This is what helped turn him into a star in the first place.

The Diaz press conferences were fight week. For both fights.

There were two Eddie conferences. One was fight week, the other was earlier, to hype the UFC @ MSG debut along with lots of other fighters. That conference is the only one they haven't done for Conor/Khabib. Its equivalent was the recent presser in LA, at which, they of course announced the fight with that video. I imagine they wanted Conor there, but couldn't get it done. Conor wants to be paid for promotion nowadays.

The UFC will spend money on an ad campaign like they always do for Conor fights. TV ads, billboards. But as usual, most media will happen fight week; interviews, embedded, etc.

It doesn't need a whole lot of promotion for one thing.

But make no mistake, there will definitely be a few (I'd say at least two) press conferences complete with the shit talking and face-offs. That and the promo videos are more than enough. Both hardcore fans as well as casual fans need no additional reasons to watch this fight.
